2 extremely boring, uneventful weeks passed surprisingly fast. There had been no attacks on Kyree or Ambrose, clearly, the assassin was planning his next assault in detail. Neither Kyree nor Ambrose was looking forward to that.

"Baby, it's only a week, I'm gonna be fine and so are you," Ambrose cupped Kyree's pouting face, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.

"I still don't think it's a good idea. You're supposed to be in hiding and yet you're going to some big meeting thing with your father, the assassin will know you're there. He'll be expecting it," Kyree countered, "at least let me come with you."

"Ky, you can't, it will look too suspicious. No one is supposed to know about us yet, remember?" Kyree grumbled something under his breath that Ambrose couldn't quite make out, probably some choice curse words he didn't want to say directly to his lover.

"What am I supposed to do for a week without you?" Kyree changed the subject, accepting that Ambrose wouldn't change his mind even if Kyree promised him the world. He was as stubborn as a mule, actually, he was worse.

"Well, I was thinking you and Idella could take some friends up to the human world. Go camping or something, be humans for the week. It would be interesting for you, like a little experiment. And since my father will be with me and all the other dukes, I'll keep him off your back," Ambrose was grinning, but Kyree wasn't totally sold on the idea. He hadn't been up in the human world since he was shot, and before then had only spent a night at a time after Alexander's death.

"I seem to be a bad omen in the human world. Maybe taking other people with me isn't such a good idea."

"Kyree you are not a bad omen," Ambrose scolded in a much more serious tone, "you weren't shot because of any sort of karma or anything. And Alexander wasn't killed because of you either, you are not a bad omen. Don't say such stupid things, Ky," Kyree simpered, remaining quiet, "I have to go now, baby," Ambrose pulled Kyree into his arms, pressing a much more forceful kiss on his lips.

"You better call me or something, every night, Amb, I wanna know you're OK," Kyree demanded as Ambrose picked up the duffle bag he had packed.

"Every night, baby, I'll make sure of it. Have fun, don't spend too long missing me," with that, Ambrose dissipated into thin air, not giving Kyree a real chance to say goodbye. Kyree sighed, that awful empty feeling nagging at him the second Ambrose was out of sight.

"Idella!" Kyree called down the hall, waiting impatiently until his little brother's head popped out of his bedroom.

"Yes, brother?"

"Where are we going?" a grin grew across Idella's lips.

"It's a surprise."

"I hate surprises," Kyree grumbled, "is whoever is joining us also a surprise?" Idella simply nodded, "and when are we leaving?"

"Whenever you're ready, brother," Kyree took a deep breath, striding over to his brother.

"Whatever, let's just go now," Idella gripped Kyree's shoulder and, without a word, they were stood in a quaint little apartment. Kyree didn't recognise any features, although some items scattered around the room did seem vaguely familiar.

"An apartment? That's your big surprise?" Kyree was a little disappointed, Idella usually planned more interesting events.

"Kyree, God, you've gotten bigger," Kyree knew that voice. That deep, gruff voice that somehow dripped with warmth and happiness.

"Bishop?" Kyree spun on his heels, unable to contain the smile taking over his face as his eyes landed on the large man. Bishop was one of Kyree's oldest and dearest friends, yet he hadn't seen him for years. Well, Kyree hadn't really seen any of his friends since Alexander had died, he couldn't bear to see them happy when he was so miserable.
