3 ~ Explanation

"So do you want to tell me why you flipped out when I tried to touch you?" Cole asked as he broke apart the hug. He watched as Zane looked away, staring at something that wasn't really there, "You don't have to tell me-"

"No no," Zane shifted where he sat to sit in a more comforatable position, "it's just quite a long story. It's about my- my father."

Cole gasped, "Your father? I thought you never talked about him. You said it didn't matter-"

"I didn't want everyone to worry about me Cole. As I was saying, my father created me to be his son. But he didn't want anyone to know I was a machine. That meant he kept me inside a room so he could work on me."

Cole started to worry. Was he just locked in a room for most of his life?

"One day," Zane continued, "I decided to go outside for a walk. I snuck out, only to get caught a couple minutes later by some people walking by. They threw snowballs at me, saying I was a monster. I managed to get away, only to trip."

Cole stiffened. "But, you aren't a monster, Zane!" He felt an overwhelming desire to hurt anyone who called his boyfriend a name.

"That wasn't the only issue. My father had been watching. He took me back to the laboratory and tried to fix me. It was quite painful, but he didn't care. He didn't know that I actually was alive."

Zane was shaking, as if all the memories terrified him. How long had he been keeping this secret?

"At one point, I tried to get out. Of course it didn't work. He- he flipped my memory switch. I can't remember much from living with him, but I can remember some parts. The pain, how lonely I felt. When he died, I escaped. I have not seen him since."

Cole was staring at Zane, obviously finding all this hard to comprehend. "You had an abusive parent!? What the actual fuck?? Zane, why didn't you tell us!?"

Zane looked at his hands, "It was not important-"

"Zane, you are my best friend and my boyfriend! I find it super important if you are feeling down or if your parent was an asshole!" Cole explained, anger edging his voice.
