seven. numb
numb
even in the way it is said
ending with the b, your mouth closed
nothing more to dispose
the anesthetic wears off but its effects remain,
how do you know what to feel
when no emotion breaks through the skin.
the happiness comes for seconds but can't get in
the sadness arrives but is turned away again
nothing changes not even my face moves.
with any sentence, i feign laughing really hard and people find me crazy
that's when the numbness becomes a siphon leaving me more empty
because I realize I never actually found it funny.
so, I try to feel the agony of sadness
the kind where you're clenching your fists and throat
maybe the warmth of the tears will remind my body that it isn't numb yet
as I lie there with a tissue in one hand, I wait for the nothing to never come.
