In the groups various travels, headaches like that one only got more intense. In spite of this, I tried to push forward as often as possible; especially since we all agreed that Nefarious' men would be hunting us.
Part of me was grateful for the duress my head was under. It helped take my mind off the whole thing.
My hand tightly wound with Jenny's as we trekked through meadows and forests alike. We avoided backyards and pastures as much as we could. If there seemed to be no way around, we rested until nightfall, when we could move through such areas with reduced risk of being seen.

I refused to take chances.

During one of my migraines, a new symptom manifested. As I shivered by the fire, Jenny, Korey and Jinxx were compiling things to lay on me to help with the chills. Before Jenny laid her jacket on my top part, her brow furrowed as she hesitated. Something had caught her eye.

"Jen-Jenny," I stuttered questioningly.

"Andy, do you remember being bitten by anything," she inquired, putting the jacket aside to free her hands. Jinxx and Korey also stopped what they were doing, interested.
Her fingers brushed my elbow, a red, angry looking hole just off center in the skin. A small hole, but it hurt like hell when Jenny touched it. My inhale hissed violently through my teeth as I reflexively yanked my arm away, shuddering harder all over.

"I'm no doctor," she mused as she stared at it, "But it looks like you need one."
"The best we can do is obtain some hydrogen peroxide and a bandage," Jen added as she walked over. She lowered herself beside Jenny, peering closely at it.
She winced.

"What's going on," Ashley asked as he walked into our little camping spot with Seth, John and CC. All together they had gathered the nights dinner of blackberries and nuts.

Jake was still out looking for water-hopefully he would find some before sunset.

"We found something interesting," Jen replied to Ashley, coaxing me into showing my inner elbow.
I tensed up, hoping no one would touch it this time as I extended my arm.
Jenny softly ran her fingers over my scalp, looking into my eyes. Her soft smile filled me with a sense of calmness.

That was the last time I felt truly peaceful, and it only lasted a few seconds before we heard rustling and a click-click of a gun. I winced at the sound, the cold barrel of a rifle pressing into my skull. Jenny's face melted into a horrified expression as she clutched my hand harder.

"You," Korey angrily spat, shaking in place, her blue eyes snapping with fury.

"Kor," John whispered urgently, "Don't. Move.Okay?"

I shifted my eyes up to see who the armed one was. All I could get from the ground was his chin and silhouetted uniform. It wasn't until I talked that I could place who it was, and then I understood just how angry the others were.

Adam had somehow found us.
Fury began to race through my veins.

"Well," he pouted, "Is this any way to greet a friend?"

"You're right,  it isn't," Korey snapped, dropping the jacket she had been holding as she slowly drew herself up to her full height. The gun whipped from my head pointing at Korey.

"No," I whispered, the pounding in my head worsening, "Korey get down!"

She never listened to our pleading. She stood firm, gazing down the barrel of the gun-even folding her arms. A challenge.

Adam's expression hardened, his leg shooting out, boot burying itself into her stomach, "Get down!"

She gasped, falling to her knees as she coughed. Something warm splattered onto my face and neck. I grimaced as some leaked into my mouth-it was the steely taste of blood.
