A/N: yep so they start school in September, they had the broom closet night in late October, and this takes place on Christmas Eve. Don't yell at me for writing Christmas in August. I love Christmas 24/7. Also, I just wanted to skip a bunch of useless friend stuff because you guys aren't here for Harry and Draco, you're here for Drarry.
As Harry and Draco grew closer, so did Pansy, Hermione and Ron. The five of them sat with each other in classes and hung out in the halls together. All was well between them.
That Christmas, during their fifth year of Hogwarts, things would change, probably for the better.
---
"Ron, you're going home?" Harry asked, nodding to the open suitcase on the ginger's bed.
"Kinda, yeah. 'Mione wants me to meet her parents and they said Christmas was fine," he said. Harry made a fake pouty face. "You've got Draco, right?"
"Not really... I think he's going home, too." Harry sighed. Hopefully he'll find someone to hang out with.
"I'd love to stay with ya, but I have to go or she will lose her head," he said, chuckling. "You'll be fine, mate." Ron closed up his case and ruffled Harry's hair before leaving. The boy made a sad attempt to fix his messy locks but to no avail.
Most people went home on their breaks, but Harry did not. He would do anything to avoid his "family," as they called it. So he changed into some more relaxing clothes and made his way to the Great Hall. There were always snacks laid out during the winter, and Harry loved them all.
He sat alone and played with some parchment. He turned it into a paper airplane and then used magic to fly it around his head. Professor Sprout had come in and scolded Harry for using magic outside of the classroom. So he sat alone and now bored as hell.
"Why the long face, Potter?" a much too familiar voice said in a playfully mad tone.
"Draco! You said you were leaving, didn't you?" Draco sat down and nodded.
"Eh, kinda... Well my dad got into a fight with my mum and she told me it would be better to stay here..." Harry patted his shoulder.
"It's alright. At least you won't be alone, you know." Draco nodded. "So... Do you want to do something?"
"Like what?" the blonde asked.
"Uhm... I don't know. Want to take a walk?"
"I don't have a reason to not to," the blonde said. "I'll meet you out in the courtyard." So the boys went to their respective houses and got dressed. Draco wore a deep grey coat with a creme colored, fur collar that went down to his knees, gloves that matched the coat, and his Slytherin scarf. Harry had an oversized, worn out coat that probably came from a Weasley. He wore gloves, but they were so worn out that they only covered the palms of his hands. He also had his Gryfindor scarf wrapped around his neck.
"Harry... Uhm, come with me," Draco said uncomfortably. They went to the Slytherin common room. Harry waited outside while Draco went in. When the blonde came back, he had another coat in his hands. This one was brown and furry on the inside, and matching gloves were in the pockets. "You can have it, Short Stuff," Draco said.
"Really?"
"I can go put it back," the blonde retorted. Harry quickly took off the nasty coat and put on the new one. It fit him perfectly.
"Th-thank you," Harry said shyly, blushing. Draco smiled. That stutter is so adorable, he thought. He blushed at the thought, and now Harry thought about how cute Draco was.
Now, before that fateful night in the broom closet, the boys hated each other and yet wanted nothing more than the other boy. Since they had become friends, they were closer with each other than the kids in their own houses. While they knew nothing more would happen between them, they both started having dreams. Certain kinds of dreams that had them waking up saying the other's name. They knew they still had a crush on each other, but each one thought their feelings were not reciprocated in the other. So, when Harry blushed at the gift from the other boy, and Draco thought about how cute the bunette was, they knew they still liked each other.
The boys walked together through the snowy yard. They didn't talk, because they both enjoyed the peaceful silence between them. Little snowflakes began falling from the sky, landing all over them. Draco looked over at Harry, whose hair was partially white with snow. The Slytherin boy laughed.
"You-" Draco stopped talking suddenly and blushed like mad. He buried his face in his scarf. He nearly just called Harry Potter cute. Out loud. And to his face.
"What is it, Draco?" he asked with concern.
"Nothing," the blonde muttered, walking ahead of Harry.
"Draco, come on," he whined. "You had something to say."
"I did but now I do not." Harry stopped while the blonde walked on. He chuckled to himself as he created a little plan in his mind. Draco had just noticed that Harry wasn't following him when the brunette came running towards him. They collided and fell into the snow... But their faces got a little too close.
Just as suddenly as their lips had collided, they were apart. Harry, who pinned down Draco, blushed madly. This wasn't part of his plan.
Sitting up, he began quickly muttering apologies. Draco sat up slowly. Harry was still sitting on his legs.
And then he hugged him gently. "It's okay," he whispered.
"I know, I'll-. Wait... Did you say it was okay...?" Harry sat back and looked at his friend's face. Both boys were uneasy, confused, and yet still... They weren't really upset.
"Y-yes... I did," Draco said, his voice shaking a little.
They sat quiet for a minute, trying to comprehend what happened. Harry Potter accidentally kissed Draco Malfoy... and both were okay with it. Draco smiled and laughed. Harry blushed even harder, thinking Draco was laughing at him. He quickly stood up and left the blonde. The boy scrambled to his feet, chasing after the other.
"Harr-"
"No. You're only going to make fun of me for this now, aren't you, Malfoy?!" His face was red and he was... Crying. He was extremely angry. Draco softened his features and stepped
"Harry calm down, I-"
"What could you possibly have to say?" he spat.
"Nothing really," Draco said. "But I want you to know this." And he put his hand behind Harry's head, pulling him close, and kissed him. Harry melted into the kiss and wrapped his arms around the boy's neck. They pulled back, their breathing heavy, and smiled. Harry laughed nervously.
"S-sorry about what I d-did," he said shyly. "I-I just didn't know-"
Draco grinned. "It's okay," he said. "Your stutter is so cute, by the way."
"Is that what you were gonna tell me?" he asked. Draco nodded. Harry blushed. They hugged each other and smiled. "It's cold."
"No shit, Potter." And so the boys walked back to the castle, hand in hand. They kissed each other one last time before breaking away, trying to keep their friend facade for as long as possible.
