I put in a time skip because why not.
The Ravenclaw boy was expelled, but they could not find any traces of the other man who helped. Draco was put under more protective supervision.
I realized putting that in was dumb and it was gonna take the story in a direction I didn't want. It'll still be fun tho.
*****"Harry, what day is it?" Draco asked. They were in the library writing a 30 inch essay on a potion that can effect one's emotions.
"February 14th," he replied back, scanning through the book splayed out in front of him.
They worked quietly for a while longer. Secretly, both longed for the other to say, 'Happy Valentine's Day'. Nervousness made them hesitate. Finally, Draco spoke up
"So.."
"Yep."
They were to nervous, even after knowing each other for so long and being so close. "Sorry," they both muttered with a laugh, and their faces became tinted pink.
"Harry," Draco finally started, turning to face the boy, "Happy Valentine's Day."
The brunette's face lit up. "Happy Valentine's Day, too," he said.
They smiled at each other. A certain bushy-haired brunette peaked her head from around a couple bookcases. "You two are horrible!" she quietly exclaimed.
"What?" both boys said, looking between each other. Hermione came to their table, smacking down a heavy stack of books. Probably for more light reading, Harry chuckled to himself.
"You have no idea how to be a couple. Everyone pretty much knows it by now," she said. "Did you even buy gifts for each other?"
Harry and Draco looked at one another, unable to hide smiles.
"So why haven't you given them to each other?" she nearly demanded.
"We're doing our homework together," Draco replied, "something I figured you would've praised instead of silly gifts."
Hermione opened her mouth, closed it, and opened it again, saying, "I'd say so, but I do consider my relationships with some importance."
"Then go, and let us be couple-y together," Harry said, turning to his parchment. She clearly couldn't decide whether to be content or upset with that answer, but ultimately picked up her books and left.
"She's pushy," Draco noted, going back to his own work.
"You're telling me; you aren't one of her best friend's." They worked quietly.
"E-excuse me?" The two looked up, Harry annoyed, Draco curious. A girl, probably a second or third year, had come up to the table.
"Yes?" they both asked accidentally, giving a quick glance from her to each other. She cleared her throat, and turned to Draco.
"I- uh my friend, she wants you to have this!" she squeaked, dropping an envelope on the table and turning away. Her long, straight, bronze-colored hair flowed behind her tiny frame.
"What is it?" Harry asked curious-but-stupidly.
"According to the seal-" which was a heart shaped sticker "- I'll say it's a Valentine." Draco turned it around in his hands. It had some weight to it, he noticed, and opened it.
Inside was a letter, just with many pages to it. "Did she write you an essay?" Harry asked sarcastically, trying to hide the jealousy in his voice.
"No- Well, yes," Draco said, looking from the opened book before him to the letter. "She wrote this essay." He motioned to the parchment in front of him.
"You still have to copy it," Harry said, a twinge of triumph in his voice. Draco stood up, shutting his book. "Wha- where are you going?" Harry demanded.
"To write my essay, I just don't need the books anymore," Draco said. What the hell is wrong with him? Harry wondered angrily. He watched as the blonde left him alone, heading to his dorm.
Harry tried to ignore it, telling himself that he was being irrational, but ultimately he became too frustrated to work.
He realized it had been nearly an hour since Draco left. Harry stood, gathered his work, and left the library.
He went to the Gryffindor common room alone, dropping off his work. He plopped onto his bed and sighed frustratingly.
"You alright, mate?" Ron asked.
"I didn't see you when I came in, sorry," he muttered. "But to answer your question, no, I'm not."
"Uh okay... Well, should I go?"
"No, you're fine. It's just... Draco," he said. He laid back onto his bed.
"What'd he do?" Ron asked, his expression hardening.
"Some girl gave him a stupid Valentine card that had his whole potions essay in it!" he cried, feeling himself get angrier. "And then he- he just ran off with it all happy and shit!"
"That's cheap, are you serious?" Ron felt angry, too.
"I have to talk to him," Harry said, sitting up suddenly. "Do you think I'm being possessive?"
"No, not really," Ron said, standing from his own bed. "You two just shouldn't be angry at each other today." He gestured to the small box on Harry's bedside table with Draco's name on it.
Harry sighed but nodded. He picked up the box and headed out of the dorm. He was upset with Draco regardless. Something seemed off about his interaction with the girl. Maybe he's cheating, Harry thought to himself, only making himself anxious and more angry.
Eventually, he round a corner and saw, to his horror, Draco slumped to the floor against the wall.
