All of us sit in a circle in the coral. Everyone's face is very solemn. Today is a special remembrance ceremony for her. We try not to talk about it, but we can't avoid it. As we sit, the principal is telling the story of Ariel's death. Everyone knows the gist. She fell in love with a man from above. Everyone tried to warn her. The late sea witch granted her wish by giving her legs so that she could go to the surface. She went to him and he tricked her. He showed her that he was kind and loving. But, before she realized what his true colors were, he took her life and dumped her body in the water. Her father, the king, mourned her greatly. The kingdom grew dark and miserable. And now, the rest of us teenagers are being warned to never ever go to the surface. The king's men gaurd the waters. We are to be kept inside at all costs. Because of Ariel's foolishness, everyone has to pay. There is no laughing, singing, dancing, or happiness. There is only darkness and sorrow. Eric was a homicidal maniac. Now, all humans are labeled as "Barbarians." Evil creatures that want to torture us and murder us. So, let this be a warning, love can kill.
