Walking out of the terminal was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. If Jake hadn't been by my side I think I would have passed out. I was so scared about the future, and the amount of pain I was in wasn’t helping.
Walking into the open space of the airport I had no clue were to go so we just followed the rest of the passengers. We ended up in baggage claim. Jake found is bag easily but mine was a bit harder, I swear like three people had bags identical to mine.
The day before we left we got a message from aunt Edna that said we could only bring one bag on the plane so Emily is going to have the rest of our stuff shipped over later.
Once all the other bags were gone I finally grabbed mine and we headed towards the exit. I have absolutely no idea what time it is but Jake and I have been waiting at this darn airport for ages without any sign of Aunt Edna. Eventually I couldn't stand waiting out in the cold Cheshire air anymore so I plucked up the nerve to go call Aunt Edna. She answered on the fifth ring "what do you want" she snapped at me. I was a little taken aback by her attitude; I can't believe I am actually related to her. "Um w-we're at t-the a-airport" I managed to stutter out. "Oh for goodness sake girl, I always knew something was wrong with you. You can't even talk right for god’s sake" Aunt Edna sneered into the phone. By now I was desperately trying not to cry, "What’s your address" I spoke quietly while trying to sound confident. "Speak up girl" she snapped at me. "What’s your address" I almost yelled back. "Ohh now you want to be feisty, you'll soon get that out of your system". Not long after I received a text with her address and it telling me to get a cab.
I swear I spent like 20 minutes trying to hail a cab before one finally pulled over. The driver quickly jumped out when he noticed me struggling with my bag and put both Jake and I’s bags away. After some thought I figured out that it was best for me to sit in the front seat as I would have more room. After sitting down the driver came over to me and placed my crouches into the boot as well. Finally we were on the road, I told the driver the address and he said it would take about an hour to get there and that it was a very upscale place. The driver introduced himself as Phil, and we made small talk although the only information he asked from us was our names, which I was thankful for. Phil was a really nice man, he’d been living here with his family for about 2 years, and he previously lived in Canada so he had a weird accent.
As estimated it only took about an hour before we pulled up in front of Aunt Edna’s house or should I say Palace. Phil climbed out first and went to the boot to get my crutches while Jake helped me stand up. It was freezing outside and was snowing; I couldn’t help but shake although I think that was more nerves. Once all of our bags were out and we had the securely in our hands Phil drove off, and we headed up to the big gold gates at the front of the house. Walking up to the gates we pressed the little intercom button and a friendly voice answered “good after noon how can I help you today”, Jake and I glanced at each other before I replied. “Um I’m Josie and my brother Jake and I are here to live with our aunt Edna” I replied politely but shyly. “oh of course you how silly of me, I been awaiting your arrival all week!” the voice replied “I’ll just buzz you in” was all he said before the golden gates started to open.
Walking up the drive with Jake carrying my bag for me we came face to face with a massive white Victorian style 3 storey house. As we neared the door a man who looked to be in his late 60’s in a black suite rushed out and took both bags off of Jake. He then led us up and into the entrance of the house where it was nice and warm before he stopped and turned to face us. “hi kids my name is Harold and I'm the doorman here” the man, Harold said. Harold looked like a very friendly man, he had a huge smile and little laugh lines at the corner of his eyes, Harold’s hair was receding and grey and he reminded me of a grandfather I once saw on TV.
I was so busy studying Harold that didn’t notice the figure approaching us from down the hall. As they got closer I got a better look. It was a young lady probably in her 20’s, she had long golden blonde hair and massive blue eyes. She also had beautiful tanned skin, legs that went for miles and the body of a supermodel. She was very gorgeous. When she reached us she smiled and looked at us, “do you know who I am” she asked. Jake looked at me a bit confusedly before he finally opened his mouth, “Aunt Edna?” he questioned carefully. The woman just stared at Jake as if he had grown another head before something sparked in her eyes, at first it looked like realisation but it quickly turned into anger, to be honest it scared me. She looked at Harold before she angrily spoke again, “she didn’t even tell them did she” she said. Harold looked at her apologetically and she started to speak again. “you see this is why I insisted that they live with me instead of her, she’s a down right bitch!” she angrily exclaimed in her thick British accent. Her eyes then returned to me and I must have looked scared because she then said.
“Oh my god. You must be so confused, let me explain, I'm Jennifer, but you can call me Jen. I'm your cousin I'm 21 years old and Edna sadly is my sorry excuse for a mother, I can’t believe she didn’t tell you. You guys will be living with me, because I know what it is like to live with my mother and I do not wish that on anyone.” The woman Jen said. For a while we just stood in silence, it wasn’t awkward silence it was just… nice.
