He saw her standing there. Waiting for someone.
Daniel bit his lip and tried to keep his poker face. He always tried to smile when he saw her, but in the end when he was at home he couldn’t hold his tears anymore. He missed Kathryn, but he wouldn’t say that out loud. He broke their love apart and hurt Kathryn, now it was his time to be hurt. He walked out of the coffee shop. He had to pass Kathryn. His feelings were driving him crazy.
Kathryn noticed him right away and smiled lightly.
“DJ!” She waved while calling Daniel. Daniel felt his heart skip a beat. All the memories were coming back. How Kathryn and him would meet and kiss in the middle of the city were everybody could watch them. They didn’t care. They were never afraid to show their love. Now their meeting would be awkward as ever.
“Anong ginagawa mo dito?” Daniel asked and tried not to be too curious.
“Dito kami mag-memeet ni Khalil. Hinihintay ko lang siya.” Kathryn answered while chewing on her lip. Daniel nodded and sighed.
“We will never be the same, right?” Kathryn asked and looked into Daniel's eyes. They both knew that the other was on the verge of tears.
“I guess not.” Daniel mumbled. Kathryn suddenly hugged him and tried to hide her face.
“Miss na miss na kita, Daniel...” Kathryn sobbed and Daniel could feel his heart breaking.
“Miss na din kita, pero alam mo hindi ko makakaya..” Daniel said and tried to get distance between him and Kathryn.
“I’m sorry.” Daniel's voice cracked and he walked away, leaving Kathryn.
He tried to hold his tears. He didn’t want to look back anymore. Their time was over and they both had to realize it.
Daniel walked faster, still trying to fight the tears. All the memories were coming back. How they celebrated Kathryn's 16th birthday at Mactan. How they both sang a duet at their school's talent show. How they celebrated their first Christmas together. How they had their first kiss at Daniel's rooftop, watching the fireworks above them. He missed her so much. It hurts.
But he knew that they can never be the same again. And with that, Daniel's heart shattered.
