Markers

Chapter 3: The Party

By the weekend everyone had gotten word of Veronicas birthday bash. All of Riverdale high was going. Everything was set up at the Pembrooke and all that was needed were the guests. People started showing up in pairs and then all at once the Pembrooke was overflowing with dancecrazed teens. Bodies were swaying every which way on the dance floor. Archie and Veronica in the center getting hot and heavy on the floor. Meanwhile, in the kitchen stood Jughead tryng to figure out who Elizabeth was. It had been a week and still no one with that name came up. Jughead went to grab a drink from the cooler at the same time Miss Betty Cooper did and just for a second their hands briefly touched.
"Oh um sorry" Betty said while blushing and automatically pulled he hand back.
"Its no biggie" said Jughead handing her a drink.
"Thanks I'll uh see you around"
"Yeah" Neither of them had enough time to think anything of it before someone yelled "MARKER TIME"
Betty went to go to Veronica to view her marker which obviously said Archibald. Right as the marker was appearing Archie whispered his first "I love you" in Veronicas ear before looking down to see the name 'Sweet Pea' on his girlfriends arm.
"Arch I-"
"Forget it Ronnie" Archie said as he turned to leave.
"Archie wait" Veronica said as she ran after him. After that the party hit a sour note and everyone started filing out of the building. Betty started walking across town to get home seeing as how Archie was her ride and he left when a group of men started following her.
"Hey there blondie, how you doing?" A man snarled. Betty walked a little faster looking for an open store the only thing open was the movies. I little up the block. She could see the flashing lights as she walked up the block. With the men screaming profanities and catcalls at her she quickly made her was up the street and entered the building. The men didnt enter the building but stayed outside waiting for the blond haired green eyed teenager.
"Archie where are you" Betty said into her phone.
"Im at home why?"
"You were kind of my drive"
"Im so sorry Betty. Where are you?"
"Movies"
"Ill be there in 10"
When Betty saw the lights on the truck she started out the door when one of the men grabbed her arm. She turned and pepper sprayed the man making him yell in pain and ran into Archies truck. "Are you okay Betty?"
"Um yeah can we just go?" With that they sat in silence until Betty said
"Are you alright after what happened?"
"Me and Veronica um broke up"
"Im so sorry"
"Well the markers aren't wrongs so. Have you found out who yours is yet?"
"Not exactly. Thanks for the ride Arch." She gave the boy a smile and a wave, then went inside her house.
