At dinner time, flaca untangled herself from her girlfriend and went to meet Piper, hoping they could start discussing the arrangements for the play. After leaving the blonde, she headed towards a bunk she never thought she would enter. She still wasn't sure if it was a good idea to have this conversation, but since talking to maritza she couldn't stop thinking about it. She hesitated before showing at the entrance of the cube but entered anyway.
- Hey - She was nervous. Really nervous. She couldn't remember the last time they talked without arguing, and that worried her.
- Hey - the surprise in her tone was obvious - This is unexpected - She had no idea of why the younger Latina was at her bunk, since they haven't talked since the whole Gloria situation, so this was definitely new.
- Yeah, I know. But I need to talk to you - Ruiz stared at her, not sure if she should trust her - i Was talking to Maritza yesterday and I realized I've never thanked you for what you did. If it wasn't for you putting some sense into my head, Mari and I might not be together now. So thank you.
- you're welcome. But you know I didn't do that for you, right? I did it for her - she paused- She doesn't deserve to be treated like that and I might be a bitch to everyone else but not to her - Flaca never understood Ruiz's appreciation for Maritza, the two of them were not even that close. Ruiz caught the doubt in the other girl's face so she continued - Did she ever tell you the story of how I got in Gloria's little family? - flaca denied - Maritza let me in - that was definitely a surprise to flaca. Maritza never told anything about that. Which was weird, since they tell each other everything- actually, she forced my way in- ok, now flaca was completely lost - I was very angry when I got in, no one would get close to me because of how I acted. No one, except for her. She started by sitting with me at lunch time, then she would threaten the girls that tried messing with me and, when I saw, we were bonding over our favorite reggaeton songs - that sounded like the maritza she knew - she didn't give up on me when everyone else didn't even tried. I didn't deserve the treatment she gave me and she didn't care. So when a tonta like you hurt her I felt the need to step up and tell you you're being an idiot. She was hit on by every single dyke in Litchfield but she only had eyes for you, and since I doubted she would fall out of love with you any time soon, I decided to do something. Some of those girls deserved to be treated like you treated them, God knows Gloria did, but Ramos? Ramos was definitely not one of them - she paused and got closer to flaca - You got yourself an one in a million kind of girl, and you took her for granted, made her feel a, how did you call her? " Gente naca" - Flaca flinched with those two words. She was such an idiot- You don't deserve her - That phrase got to her, she spent nights and more nights thinking those exact four words. "You don't deserve her" was what she would tell herself to justify the lack of courage to feel maritza how she felt. Hearing that out loud brought back some memories she wanted to forget, memories she didn't want to repeat ever again.
- I know I screwed up big time there, and you don't need to worry, I don't plan on ever doing it again. I love her, and she loves me. I'm the happiest I've ever been, she makes my life worthy. I would be an idiot to do anything that could end this.
- I'm glad you're aware of that - she joked. Flaca had now understood the link between her girlfriend and Ruiz, and every puzzle piece was in place now. That made her feel lighter, she liked to know things, and liked even more to understand them. So, considering the talk good enough she turned, hoping she could finally have her lunch, but Ruiz interrupted her - Hey, tonta - She turned back - she's like a little sister to me. Make her happy - the tone in maria's voice was nothing alike it was moments ago, she was soft now. It was almost unrecognizable. She really cared about maritza. The thought of maritza having somebody that cared about her that much made flaca smile.
- don't worry, I will - and headed towards the food.
When she got to her table, her friends were already finishing their plates, she almost lost lunch. Maritza's face lighted up when she noticed flaca there.
- Hi, how was everything with Chapman? - of course maritza would want to know how their meeting was. Since discovering flaca's love for theater, she was constantly asking about the play. She was sensational.
- It was fine, we agreed in everything about the auditions and we decided on the crew. You're in charge of the makeup team, by the way - she knew her girl would freak out, she loved makeup, so she asked piper to be to one the deliver the news. She loved to see that happy face.
- Seriously? - she was so excited about spending that much time doing people's makeup. She always loved that world, she would live from it if it was possible - oh my god! Everyone will be incredible! - flaca didn't doubt that. Maritza had a true gift for painting people's faces and drawings, but she was the only one who knew about the last one. While flaca ate, maritza kept trying to convince flores and gloria to help with the play, but didn't obtained any success. After lunch, the couple went straight to the auditions. Flaca tried to hide how nervous she really was, but maritza saw right through her - Hey, it's going to be ok - she caressed her girlfriend's arms - You are going to be great, it's going to be the best play in history of prisons - Flaca appreciated the gesture, but it was not soothing her. Maritza, of course, noticed that too - If you get nervous while on stage just look for me in the audience. I'll be there rooting for you -That helped. If Mari was there, then she could do anything. She kissed her cheek - not that I'm complaining, but what was that for? - she was so perfect that she didn't realize how she helped flaca by just being there for her.
- For being you.
* please vote and comment it makes me really happy.
