"We should have been working on your English. I can't believe you guyd have gotten so popular over here and we've been neglecting your English!"
Watching my boyfriend's group grow the past few years was amazing. Watching them win an American award was even better. And now, he wanted to meet my family. He'd brought it up before. But he was insistant this time.
So during their down time we flew back to the states.
Sitting in the cab home, I was begining to stress.
"Why do you want to do this again? They haven't exactly warmed up to you. If anything, my mom might actually try to kill you. Not sure I can hid that from ARMYs."
"I want to meet the people I'm stealing you from."
I groaned softly. Things hadn't exactly smothed over with my family. I had managed to get through school pretty fast and now, with only a few classes to complete, the part time job I had taken on with Big Hit was turning into a more permanent job.
I'd spent a full day sad in Yoongi's bed after telling my parents I wasn't coming home for good. It hadn't been a good conversation. And Jin hadn't been to fond of the fact that his roommate's girlfriend had burrowed into their room.
The guys had made a little dinner party for me to make me feel better and Yoongi had stayed at my place for a few days reassuring me.
When the cab reached my parents house I stepped out into the chilly winter air.
"Let me carry my own bag."
"No, I'm trying to impress them remember."
"Ajumma!"
My neice ran out of the house and into my arms. "Hey sweetie."
Katie then gave Yoongi a little bow and introduced herself.
My boyfriend raised an eyebrow at me. "Your niece speaks Korean?"
"I've beem teaching her. We mostly use Korean. My sister in law thought it would be good for her brain."
"You know, I can hear you."
Yoongi smiled. "You have your ajumma's attitude."
Katie smiled. "I know. My dad says I'm worse!"
Yoongi laughed. "Can't imagine that."
"Katie! You don't have a jacket!"
Laughing, Yoongi and I followed Katie back to the house.
I got hugs from my family, all of whome ignored my boyfriend. Except my niece and her parents.
Within an hour Katie was doing her best to translate something between her father and Yoongi.
"Why did you even want to bring him here?" My mother was angrily chopping onions.
"He insisted. He said he had something important coming up and he wanted to meet my family before. I tried to talk him out of it. I know you hate him." I sighed. "Of course you hate him. It's not like he's not a boring business man who will stay close to home. He's just the love of my life."
"Watch your mouth. He's just some fixation. If you would come home you'd realize that."
"Why? So you can try to talk me into throwing away my dreams and love again? I'm not..." I trailed away watching Yoongi step out onto the back porch with my father.
"I wonder what they're talking about. Not like they can undersrand each other." My mother turned her back as I peered out window.
I watched as Yoongi spoke. He was standing straight and tall, but he kept touching his ears. A nervous habit. I couldn't see my father's face but I could see his shoulders relax and his head tilt to the side in thought.
Finally, Yoongi's mouth stopped moving and a moment later my father nodded and said something, reaching out to shake Yoongi's hand. My boyfriend had a big grin on his face.
"Hey, sweetie, can I talk to your mom for a bit?"
"Uh...yeah. I guess...I'll just go then."
Yoongi dragged me into the hall out of sight of the kitchen and the livingroom. He gave me his big gummy smile, which still melted my heart.
"Being cute won't get you off. What were you talking about?"
"I'll tell you later." He pulled me in and softly kissed my lips.
He whispered, "I love you." Just as I heard my mom yell, "You did what?!"
"Let's go for a walk?" I said grabbing my coat.
Yoongi and I walked down to the park.
"Hey, can I see your promise ring?"
I looked at him and held up my hand.
"May I?" He asked, indicating taking the ring off.
I handed it over. "What's up?"
"I was thinking about having the stones changed, you wear a lot of pink so- shit!"
"My ring! Yoongi where'd it go?!"
Yoongi nelt down to find it in the snow. "Don't worry." I watched him twist around. "Got it. Oh, this is pretty too."
When he turned back around he had my promise ring in his palm next too a small black box.
"If that's not a pair of stupid earings..."
Yoongi ignored me and opened the box to a shiny, simple, elegant, diamond engagement ring.
"If I ask, will you spend forever with me? Ow! Don't hit me when I'm trying to be romantic!"
I smacked his arm a few more times before launching myself at him, sending him on his back as I kissed him.
"You kinda have to answer him, you know? I can only film you sucking his face for so long."
I pushed myself up to see Candy standing behind me with her phone, recording the whole thing.
"First of all fuck you."
"I'm flattered but your probably engaged now."
"Second of all," I said louder, turning back to Yoongi with a soft smile, "forever isn't long enough. But it's a good place to start."
