Coles alarm clock was what caused the two to wake up.
Jay groaned, sitting up from his position on the floor.
Cole opened his eyes and cursed. "We're going to be late for school." He tried to remain calm, sitting up.
"What day is it?" Jay asked groggily.
"Thursday." Cole muttered.
Jay tried to take in his surroundings. Once he had clued in that him and Cole had slept all night on the floor he began to panic. "Moms gonna freak!" He shrieked quietly to himself, pulling out his phone to see all the missed calls and unread text messages.
While Jay retreated to the hall to privately phone his mom, Cole got changed. He slipped on a black shirt with a rock bands logo on it, and a pair of baggy jeans. He stretched out his sore muscles, the consequences of sleeping on the floor started to kick in as his whole body ached. He ran a brush through his hair quickly, and tied his long shoulder length black hair into a bun.
Jay came back into the room, slipping his phone into his pocket. He ran a hand through his hair. "How'd it go?" Cole asked, trying to fight back a smile. He knew Jay was most likely in trouble.
Jay shrugged. "They told me to call them next time." "They calmed down once they knew I was just with you." Jay stated.
Coles heart fluttered. It always did give him confidence to know that Jays parents trusted him. He felt like Jays protecter in a strange way, and as his teammate he swore he would protect Jay.
Jay looked out at Coles window. Water continuously hit it, causing streaks to cover the window, and for the outside to appear blurred. Cole noticed the weather too, and also realized Jay had only a t-shirt. Cole dug into his closet, pulling out two hoodies, one which was black, and one that was grey. He handed Jay the grey one. "Thanks Cole." Jay thanked. The boys put on their hoodies and Cole grabbed his wallet and house keys- making sure their was enough money for his and Jays lunch- before the two boys walked down the stairs to the front door.
"Race ya?" Cole suggested, opening the door to show the full extent of the storm.Heavy rain was shooting down and hitting the ground causing an echoey thumping sound. Jay nodded enthusiastically, putting his hood up over his head. They stepped out of the house, the roof covering them from the rain. Cole locked the door and they both got into their ready stances.
"Three.. two.." Cole started to count down. Their eyes focused on the end target, the bus stop sign.
"One!" The two boys dashed off, their sneakers coliding with the wet cement of Coles drive way.
To no ones surprise, Jay made it to the bus stop first, laughing as he watched Cole finally make it to his position.
"One day I'll be as fast as you." Cole muttered, trying to catch his breath. Jay giggled louder."You can dream." He said with a smirk.
The bus arrived and the two got on, heading to the back. The found an empty seat and Jay sat on the window side. Cole sat down next to him and pulled out his phone and earbuds, handing Jay an earbud as he turned on some music. The two boys sat in silence as they listened to Coles music together.
The bus slowed to a stop in front of the school and everyone got off of the bus.
Cole and Jay split up to go to their lockers. Jay entered the code to his lock and opened it. He dug through it, grabbing his books.
Jay felt his phone buzz. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw a text message from Kai.
Flame boy: meet up outside lunch
Jay read Kai's poor sentence structure and lack of grammar. He typed a response.
ok, cool.
Due to everyone having different classes, lunch was one of the only times during school they could get together as a group.
The bell rang just as he closed his locker. He held his books and walked down the hall towards his first class. Physics, the class he shared with Nya and Zane.
He walked down the crowded hall of teens that were all pushing forward to get to their classes. Jay managed to make it through the swarm of kids and entered his half empty classroom. Zane and Nya were already seated and had saved a seat for Jay. Jay sat down in the empty seat between them and placed his books in front of him. "Can I borrow paper.. and a pencil?" Jay asked Nya, chuckling embarrassingly.
"You forgot your bag again?" Nya sighed raising an eyebrow. Jay shrugged and nodded. She leaned back and unzipped her bag that was resting on the back of her chair. She pulled out her binder and pencil case, giving Jay his needed supplies.
"Thanks." He smiled.
All the students and the teacher entered the classroom. She went to the board and held up a marker. "We're taking notes." She announced.
Audible groans came from a few students. Zane was happy to take the notes, Nya couldn't care less and just dealt with it, and Jay didn't mind writing. He readied his pencil, scribbling his name at the top of the borrowed page.Jay slumped in his seat, lazily listening to the teacher go on about Newtons law. He had zoned out, staring at the board. Nya tried to hold in her laughter as she leaned closer to him. She held her hand up and flicked his freckled cheek. He jumped, his head shooting up. She let out a snort of laughter, attracting attention from a few classmates and the teacher. She looked back at Jay who looked visibly confused. She covered her mouth with her hands as she let out another giggle. "Smith, Walker. Pay attention." The teacher spoke up.
Ok so I apologize if this is seeminging a bit cliche- I'm just trying to set up everything before I throw these characters into complete madness, (although this book is very likely to be cliche cause I'm honestly just trying to get the hang of writing again-) so it'll be kinda chill for a few chapters.. uh yeah.. hope your enjoying the book so far, and have a nice day 😊
