Jay walked into Coles unlocked house, not even bothering to knock. He went straight to Coles room. The door was open, and he was quietly studying while listening to music on his headphones.
"Boulder brain!" Jay called out smiling.
"What's up moter mouth?" Cole said, looking up from his papers, and taking off his headphones. It was so common for Jay to show up randomly that Cole was beyond used to it.
"Wanna go get ice cream?" Jay asked, leaning against Coles doorframe.
"Sure, I could take a break from studying anyway." Cole sighed. He closed his books.
"What are you studying for anyways?" Jay asked, sitting down on Coles bed, and tapping his feet on the carpet.
"The socials test coming up." Cole answered. Panic filled Jays face as he said those words.
"There's a test?" Jay panicked.
"Yeah, next week. Were you seriously not listening?" Cole laughed.
Jays mind flashed back to socials class.
___
"The green ninjas the coolest by far." The classmate sitting beside Jay argued.
"No way, I mean, name his power. You can't." Jay retorted.
The classmate was about object, but sighed. "I guess so.. but that is what makes him cool, he's mysterious." He added.
"Anyways, who's your favourite?" The classmate asked.
"The blue ninja for sure." Jay grinned.
"Eh, he's kinda a wimp." He shrugged.
"How would you know?!" Jay questioned, crossing his arms.
"He just seems-"
"And don't forget what I said, it's very important." The teachers voice masked the classmates.
"What'd he say?" Jay asked. The classmate just shrugged.
___
"Guess not." Jay mumbled.
"Well, we can study together after ice cream." Cole said.
"Fine." The two left Coles room and headed towards the door. Coles father - like usual - was not home, which meant Cole was often by himself in the large house. It was admittedly pretty boring. But, Jay did drop by a ton which kept Cole gratefully distracted.
The two walked the streets of Ninjago. It was a warm day, which was a nice change of the rain November brung
"How's your arm? You fell off that roof pretty hard." Cole said concerned. Last night they had been sent to chase after a thief, which resulted in Jay falling, and the thief getting away.
"Im fine." Jay looked at his bandaged left hand. "But don't remind me! I feel horrible. It was my fault they got away." Jay pouted.
"It's fine, we'll catch them next time." Cole dismissed.
Jay nodded, a slight bit of him not agreeing, but he pushed it away.
They reached the ice cream place and Jay was the first to enter, a bell signalling their presence. Jay walked up and stood in the line. "What do you wanna get?" Jay asked, looking at the large list of ice creams that were displayed above the counter.
Cole hummed as his eyes scanned the list. He lit up as he read a particular word. "Chocolate birthday cake!" Cole answered excitedly.
"Of course." Jay laughed. "I'm gonna get... bubble gum." Jay smiled.
They got their ice creams and payed. Jay and Cole walked down the sidewalk, chatting about random things all the way back to Coles house. they reached his door and Cole unlocked it and opened it. they headed back to his room, Jay sitting cross legged on his carpet floor. Cole sat next to him and opened up the text book. "I'll read, you take notes, k?" Cole said, handing Jay a notebook and a pencil. Jay nodded, knowing that if Cole was writing the notes would be hardly legible.
an hour pasted and the two boys were about ready to give up. "can we take a break?" Jay begged, putting the notebook down on the floor.
"you read my mind." Cole smirked, standing up. the two boys went to the kitchen to get a snack. Jay dug through the cupboards before cheering.
"I found one!" he announced, holding up a fruit roll up.
"are you five?" Cole asked, raising an eyebrow.
"why do you have them in the first place?" Jay asked, sticking his tongue out.
"dude, its probably like ten years old." Cole said rolling his eyes.
"Whatever." Jay scoffed, unrolling the fruit roll up and taking a bite. "Mario kart race?" Jay suggested, his words muffled by the candy in his mouth. Cole grinned and nodded
they headed downstairs to where the gaming room was. Jay was still amazed by how large Coles house was, as he sat down on one of the multiple large couches. Cole turned on the video game console and the tv. he handed Jay a controller and grabbed one for himself.
~
"Don't you dare do it." Jay hissed, looking over at Coles side of the screen, where his character was holding a blue shell.
Cole smirked and pressed a button on his controller, causing the blue shell to fly away to the person in first- which was conveniently Jay. Jay shrieked as his character got knocked down and other players blew past him, including Cole.
The race finished with Jay in 3rd and Cole in 1st.
"Best two outta three?" Jay asked, glancing over at the black ninja. He nodded.
---
the boys headed back upstairs to Coles room and continued on to studying. Jay looked out at the window in Coles room and noticed that the sun had already set. He yawned and leaned his head on Cole who was next to him.
"You tired?" Cole chuckled. Jay shut his eyes and nodded. Cole started to realize how tired he was as well and soon the two best friends were fast asleep.
