                            Chapter 1

Oh. My. Gosh. The letter. It's here. I always knew I'd enter the selection, but the letter is here in front of my face. I think I may faint. "Mommy! The letter is here! Bring a pen!" I squeal.
"Oh Lord, quit yelling my dear girl! Your poor old mother can't handle it!" she chuckled as she handed me a pen.
"Sorry Mommy, I am just excited!"I whispered. It's not like me to yell. Ever. But today, I, Caroline Pearson am entering the Selection. Prince Mason's selection, to be exact. Oh my gosh. I adore him! He is so cute! He always winks at the end of the report. I feel like it's for me, every time, even though I know it couldn't possibly be true. I have adored him since I was three years old. He is King Maxon's, God bless his dear soul, great grandson and he looks like an angel. Blonde hair and green eyes, he is the most eligible bachelor of the world right now. I will never have a chance.
"Hello? Carrie?" Mom said. "Are you alright honey?
" Oh yes. Quite a lot better than alright." So, I filled out the paper.

                 Two weeks later:
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Today the Report comes on. I wish our television was nicer. We are a family of teachers, so we don't make a great salary, but we are better off than some. Some are still recovering from the castes dissolving almost fifty years ago. I don't know why though. Fifty years seems like enough time to get your life together to me.
Mom and I sit down on the sofa, and my sister and brother sit on the carpet with my daddy, happily playing with their toys. I am the oldest. They are 8 year old twins. They look nothing like me though. I am 17 years old and my school yearbook voted me prettiest girl 3 years in a row. Not that it matters. Not that my outer beauty will make me marry the prince. I have silky blonde hair that runs down to my waist, and pale skin, rosy lips, and bro eyes. I am about average in height. I hope to see that
