"I'm in need of love, and baby you're in need of love, so what about us? On and on and on til the break of dawn it's on." I repeatedly sang the catchy chorus of one of my favorite songs so far. As you could guess, it was a Jodeci song.
"Whatcha singing?" Marcus asked with a mouthful of food. He always eating something. Why he eating when we bout to go eat?
"A new Jodeci song that may never come out 'cause they playin'." I joked. I was half serious though. Speaking of Jodeci, haven't spoken to anyone, including DeVanté since the whole photo shoot debacle. Which was a few weeks ago, mind you. I stopped going to their studio sessions because for me, it's a waste of time. I literally just sit there and watch them argue, sing, and eat.
Tomorrow was Dalvin's 22nd birthday, yeah, he's young as hell. Some of his friends and the rest of the fellas were throwing him a surprise birthday party at the studio. I wasn't going to be able to make it though. Anyway, enough about Jodeci, it was finally safe to say that Marcus and I were able to have a well-deserved night out. Just the two of us, no distractions. I had on a satin slip dress that was black, along with black open-toe pumps that tie up my leg. Marcus made me look good. We looked good together. But we worked together even better. "I'm ready to goooooo!" I groaned. I usually take longer than him, but today he was trippin'.
He hurried from the bathroom and slipped on his glasses. They tied in perfectly with his all black ensemble. Suddenly, I was staring at the man that I had met years ago, falling in love all over again. "Let's go then, baby." He sent a smirk my way and then let me walk out of the house before him. He thought I was being super nice lately, but he was competing with me. He took me shopping last week, filled up my gas tank twice this week, and he just paid for a manicure and pedicure for me. I don't know what's gotten into him lately, but I think I like it.
Delmonico's was the place to be on Friday nights, especially for couples. They had the best steaks in the city. Of course, you had to have a nice paycheck to eat in here, but it's well worth it. We've only been a few times. For this trip, we took Marcus' car. I've been driving so much lately, I just wanna ride passenger side. Our night consisted of a nice dinner, some dancing, and some dessert at home. You already know.
In the car, tension was thick, but a good kind of tension, being as though we don't get to spend as much time together anymore. What, with my promotion and him taking on more projects, there's no more Sydney and Marcus time. The savory aroma of sirloin steak filled my nose as soon as we reached the doors. We had a reservation already made so we were immediately seated.
"So how you feelin'?" Marcus asked, taking a look through the leather covered menu.
"I'm feeling good, better now that I'm with you. I missed this," I said, taking a deep breath, basking in the ambiance.
"Me too, Syd. We ain't been out in ages," he replied, agreeing with me. I looked down at my menu and began to mentally list what I wanted. I think I wanted a New York strip steak with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Yes indeed!
