Edward
We sat drinking for a while, I lost track of the time but we must have been there a while because the light which had been streaming through windows near the ceiling had gone, indicating night time.
Along each avenue were lights, not unlike street lights, although these were made from long upstanding poles with glass containers hanging from them, the containers had candles in them which a few men and women were slowly lighting. As each light began to flicker the secret city caught a soft orange glow in each little alley.
It was truly gorgeous.
When we finally left the bar Louis had already disappeared to his room in one of the nearby sectors; he had a larger room than most due to being the bartender. In my first impressions of him, I wasn't too sure of my opinion. Due to his occupation within this hidden town, I wasn't too sure if he could be trusted, although there was no evidence to support my worries other than stories from my mother. I was rather intrigued by his hobby and, in a way I suppose, weapon choice.
Kat threw off my thoughts when she put a hand on my shoulder. "What about you, Edward? What did you get abandoned for?" She asked, clearly I hadn't been paying attention to her conversation with Henry.
Removing her hand from my shoulder, I chuckled. "I wasn't abandoned. I left. It doesn't matter why, only that I did. I'm here now and until am I certain I can trust you, I won't be telling you anything if I can help it."
We stopped walking when I said that but Kat didn't seem upset. She just smiled.
"You're smarter than I thought, we all keep our secrets here, it's how we survive." She told me with a little smirk but glanced to Henry who still looked a little worried. "Even Henry has some things he doesn't tell us, and we've been friends since forever."
Of course, he seemed offended by that. How sweet.
"The only things I don't tell you are personal problems or things to do with our safety which you can't help with. Like agreements. You're my best friend, I tell you as much as I can."
"I know, I was just saying that we all have secrets. The stuff you guys don't know about me could fill a library, I tell you what you need to know and nothing more." The air went cold around us as Henry fell silent, I just watched them both attempting to make sense of their complex feelings. "Anyway, this is me. Good night Henry, good night Edward. Oh and Ed, don't make us regret letting you in."
The warning was an interesting addition and almost made me wonder what it is she would do if I made them regret anything...
Her home had darker cloth walls, some deep purple and others just black that hid the contents of the inside and the secrets hidden within the young woman who lived there. There was a single candle lamp glowing inside which helped to light up what small parts we could see before the black curtain fell back into place, concealing her once again.
I turned to Henry and sighed, I didn't need to speak my concerns as I was sure he already knew that his friends were wary of me. Louis, I trusted the least, there was something about him.
I'm just not sure what...
Louis
I don't trust him.
This new guy that Henry brought home, there's something about him not quite right. He doesn't laugh at my jokes.
That alone makes him suspicious...my jokes are hilarious!
Anyway, Kat seems to be as worried as I am, none of us like new people. It's how we've survived this long with just each other. Trust. Bring someone new in and all that goes to pot.
