Peter looked at Justin concerned, "What's going on over there?"
The radio hissed, "It's hard to explain, those creatures from last night seem to be gone, but somehow they broke down the door to the main building. We can't find any of the counselors and no one wants to go into the building to check on them." Marcus sounded less scared than he did last night.
"That's not good, just hang tight we're going to try to head back to camp right now, then we can figure out what to do. In the meantime, see if you can keep the other campers in the dining hall and try to keep them calm." Peter picked up his club from the ground.
"I'll try my best. Just try to get back here as fast as you can." Marcus said.
Justin walked up the stairs and carefully removed the makeshift barricade from the door and cautiously peaked out. The gas station was empty, and he couldn't see any signs of the creatures from the night before. Slowly they crept through the store listening and watching for any signs of the creatures that had hunted them in the night. There was no sign of them and Justin could hear birds chirping in the distance. 'It's like the forest finally came to life.' He thought as he let himself relax slightly. Justin ducked through the broken glass door and out into the warm summer air.
The sun was still low in the sky but already the atmosphere in Talons Hollow felt different. A breeze blew through the town rustling the overgrown brush around the buildings, Justin and Peter both flinched and tensed waiting for the monsters to reveal themselves.
It took several minutes for them to relax and Justin said, "It's just the wind, I think those things are gone."
Peter nodded and wiped the sweat from his forehead, "I know, if those things could walk around during the day time they probably would have attacked us as soon as we got off the bus yesterday."
Justin looked up and down main street looking for any signs of other people, but he didn't see anything. The road leading out of town seemed to stretch out endlessly and Justin knew that the nearest town was likely hundreds of miles away. Still he found himself wanting to run away from the town and camp as fast as he could. Peter jogged ahead of him and turned down the street that led to the abandoned houses. Justin turned away from the road and ran after Peter. 'I'd never make it back...' In the daylight the houses they had found the night before seemed in even worse shape, several of them had giant holes in their roofs while a few others were missing shingles and chunks of siding.
"Should we go check the houses out?" Peter asked looking at nearest house.
"Not right now we need to get back to camp, we can always come back and search them later." Justin kept walking. "We need to stay focused and regroup with the other campers."
Peter nodded and followed behind him, "Your right we need to assess the situation and then we can decide what to do."
For several minutes they walked in tense silence through Talon's Hollow neither of them saying a word. The pleasant breeze and the sound of birds and squirrels helped them both calm their nerves. Finally, they reached the gravel road that would take them back to Camp Wolf Stone. Justin began to walk down the road, but Peter had stopped in the middle of the road.
"What's up? Can you hear something?" Justin asked nervously.
"Relax I don't hear anything I just need to talk to you before we go back to camp." Peter said with a serious tone. "I'm sorry Justin it's my fault that you're here in the first place and it's my fault that those other kids died. If only I had said something to someone about this place, I knew something wasn't right out here, but I wanted an adventure." Peter had started to cry, and he fell to his knees. "I used your shitty parents to manipulate you into coming here and I'm so sorry. Now we're all going to die out here..."
