-(y/n) POV-

*RIIIIING* 'ugh...why alarm clock'... I grabbed the alarm clock and threw it somewhere. *crash* ... ... "Oh wait!" I got out of bed and grinned in excitement.

"I can't believe today's finally come! today I get my first Pokemon from the Pokemon professor! I have always dreamed of setting out on my own with Pokemon by my side! There are so many Pokemon in this world! I hope to discover them all one day!" I got dressed and put my shoes on. "Well, I better get going!" I was just about to go until I remembered something.

"Oh! I almost forgot! I need to fill out my trainer card!" I wrote down my name onto the card. "(y/n)...did I write that correctly?" I double-checked it to make sure I didn't misspell my own name, would be quite embarrassing. "Awesome! I'm that much closer to officially being a Pokemon trainer!"

I walked downstairs into the kitchen. 'Guess mom and dad are working right now.' I thought to myself before walking out the front door. "Hey (y/n)! it's me, Jake!" I looked to my right to see my childhood friend, Jake, Running toward me.

"I can't believe we're getting our first pokemon today! this is the day we've dreamed of since we were kids! I'm on my way to the lab right now to get mine right now!"

I smiled at him and nodded eagerly to what he was saying. "Oh yeah, your parents wanted to see you before you went to the lab. I saw them pass my house earlier, heading towards the digging site. Hurry and go talk to them, I'll be waiting for you at the lab!"

I nodded and thanked him. Jake ran to the lab and I began walking towards the digging site.

when I got there I saw my parents talking to each other. "Well that ought to take care of it..." mom said. "we have to keep this a secret, for everyone's safety." dad said. "Your right." mom replied. "It's too dangerous for anyone to go down there." she added. "I don't think we should tell anyone about this." dad said. "Maybe we can tell that new professor" mom suggested. "maybe you're right." dad replied back.

When they turned around I noticed that I must've startled them. "Oh, (y/n)! You startled me!" mom said. "Hey, champ! today is the day you get your first pokemon!" My dad said proudly. "We are so happy for you sweetie!" mom added happily, giving me that pretty smile she always has on her face.

"Sorry we didn't meet you at home. We just discovered something in the cave last night. As archeologists, your mother and I are very through with our work." dad told me. "That's right, but enough talking. Let's head down to the professor's lab and let you pick your very first pokemon!" mom said happily smiling gently at me. "We'll see you there!" my dad said and began walking with mom towards the lab.

I stopped and looked back at the digging site. 'i wonder what they were talking about...' i decided to just push it to the back of my mind and began walking towards the lab as well.

when I got to the lab I noticed a few people standing and talking to each other. I walked to them and waved a bit at Jake, who happily waved back. I then walked up to who I presumed to be the new Professor.

"Hello, my name is professor Cypress. I am the new Professor in Mitz town. I'll bet your (y/n). Your parents were just telling me about you. You must be very excited to be getting your first pokemon today." I glanced at my parents happily, excitement plastered on my face.

"There are a few things you must know about pokemon first. Pokemon are our friends and we grow alongside them. They grow, and in some cases evolve and change form as we battle with them. Your pokemon will grow to love you as you adventure with them." he said and looked me in the eyes.

"Oh that's cool! I never knew that before!" Jake said excitedly, almost even jumping in excitement. "Yes, and there are still many things that we do not know about pokemon."

I looked at Jake again and it looked like he was about exploded from excitement.

"(y/n), I want you to pick a pokemon that you would like to accompany you on your adventures. Make a choice from these 21 different breeds. Go ahead now."

I walked up to the Pokeballs containing the pokemons. There were so many, I didn't know which one to pick. after a little while, one of the pokeballs caught my attention; A Totodile.

I picked up the Pokeball and smiled. "So you would like Totodile, the water-type pokemon?" Professor Cypress questioned. I nodded and looked back at the Pokeball in my hand. "Excellent choice, (y/n)!" professor Cypress said.

"Your new pokemon is so cute!" my mom gushed. "That pokemon definitely has potential in battle!" my dad added. "I hope our pokemon become best friends like we are!" Jake said enthusiastically.

"Alright (y/n), many Challenges await you. Let me give you one other gift that will help you along your way." he handed me a hand-sized red machine.

"It's a Pokedex. It's like an electronic encyclopedia that records the kinds of pokemon you encounter and capture. It will also help me in my research with pokemon." I smiled and nodded thankfully to him.

"Now what are you waiting for? Go out and explore the world of Pokemon!" Cypress said and smiled at me.

"Yes (y/n), Go ahead and have fun with your pokemon. We need to stay and talk with the professor for a minute. We'll meet up with you later" my dad said. I smiled at him and looked at my mom. she was smiling too.

when I was just about to leave through the front door I heard jake calling after me. "Hey (y/n), Wait up!"

I looked behind me and saw an excited Jake running up to me. "we have pokemon now! LET'S BATTLE!"

I agreed and both of us got into battle position. he threw out an Eevee and I threw out my Totodile.

"Eevee use tail whip!" Jake said to his Pokemon. "Totodile use Scratch!" I called out to my Totodile. "Eevee, use tail whip again!" Jake called. the battle went on for about ten minutes until I ended up being victorious.

"Nice Fighting! Here, let me heal your pokemon!" he said and used a potion on my Totodile. "(y/n) that was an Excellent battle!" my mom said and walked up to me with dad.

"your father and I watched while we were discussing things with the professor." she said and looked at Jake and me. "We are very proud of you in this step to become a Pokemon Trainer! We want you to know that we will support you as you explore Roria." My dad said.

"You need to be very careful, as you are going to be out on your own for the first time. Don't forget to floss!" My mom said, quite strictly actually...

"(y/n), We want to give you something to take with you as a gift to celebrate this momentous occasion." he said and handed me a necklace with a small bronze brick. I put it in the bag, afraid I might drop it if something happens if I have it around my neck.

"I made it into a necklace just this morning. When you look at it, just remember your family who loves you. Don't forget to keep it safe." He said and gave me a hug.

"We're headed back to the house. If you need anything that's where you'll find us!" my mom said in a cheerful voice before leaving with my dad.

I waved to them through the window as they walked back to our house. "Wow that was pretty cool of your parents." Jake said and walked up beside me.

"Oh, by the way, I have something for you. They're for catching wild pokemon!" He handed me 4 normal pokeballs and a love ball. "S-sorry about that... I only had 4 normal pokeballs.." he scratched his head and gave an embarrassed smile. but something told me that what he was saying wasn't completely true.

"A-anyway I need to go pack some stuff before I set off on my adventure, you should go start training your Pokemon on route 1! Past route 1 is Cheshma town, that'll be a good place for us to meet up. alright, i'll see you later!"

He practically ran out the door. i quietly let out a laugh at is behaviour. when i stepped out the lab i stopped and took a dee breath in. "This is where my adventure begins"
