Here are a few reminders for judges as we bring in the judging period for Round 1!

If you are confused or have questions about any part of this update, please message our co-host or drop a comment. I know this might be a lot of information, but I want to make sure that everyone understands what is happening.

Before I begin, I would like to preview our list of assigned categories. PLEASE check if you are assigned to more than one category. If you put on your form that you'd like to judge for two categories, you are probably in two categories.

Please drag into a new tab to view at full size.

✦ Keep in touch with our co-host BornToWrite47. If you plan on judging your books on the last few days of the judging period, then please let her know! That way we don't assume you've ditched the awards and scramble to get your assignments read in time.

✦ Please keep our spreadsheet organized! We have included a cheat sheet, an awards panel, and a scoring sheet. You will be getting the link through a private message on Friday. If you have any questions, please ask BornToWrite47.

✦ Remember to keep your critiques constructive. You are free to provide advice to writers or suggest improvements. We just ask that you do so with a positive attitude! The participants in your group will also be giving you a score based on the effort of your comments. If you get a high score then there's a chance of winning our Best Judge prize!

✦ After Round 1, all judges assigned in a category are required to read the first chapter of the category's winning book and give a mini review. This is part of the prizes for this event! Keep that in mind. You may do this starting on 9/10.

✦ In extreme cases, we are offering a one day extension for judges that miss the deadline. This is not recommended since it will halt the announcement of Round 1 Winners. If you need the extension, please message our co-host before the deadline.

✦ Participants are required to follow the judge in charge of their group. If a participant is not following you at the time the judging period starts, then you are allowed to send a friendly message as a reminder that you are patiently awaiting their follow as part of the Rules and Guidelines of The Magic Awards. If you would like help reaching out to someone in your group, please ask our co-host for advice.

✦ Have fun! Enjoy the books in your group and share your advice. We hope you have a pleasant experience as you judge.

We appreciate you taking time to be a part of this event. I hope we've given you all that you need to make this a fun experience. Without judges, this contest would not be happening!!
