She was walking. Walking to nowhere. She had nowhere to go because it had all burned. And everyone she knew had gone. It was the seventh time she had walked passed her own burning house. The smoke was still there. But the things. The things she lost. The things she lost in that fire. A fire. The fire.
They were gone. Then she took a step into the ashes. The door had already been burnt down so she didn't have to open it. Everything she had decorated the house with was burnt. Done of the walls were still up which is why the roof hadn't collapsed but the walls, they were getting ready to fall. She just wanted one last look before she left to wherever she was going to. She made her way to her room. And there along with the burnt desk there were the burnt papers. Every last 30 of them. She had already burnt away the very last one. But none of the papers were legible.
She picked them all up, getting ready to burn them along with the very last one.
Rem?
She couldn't answer. All she did was drop the papers. She knew the voice. Anyone knew that voice. Like an angel. Not quite singing but fluttering. It's was her voice.
Em.
Rem. I knew it was you.
How. Why?
What? What do you mean?
She turned around. Not knowing what to expect. She was beautiful. Her blonde hair flowing around her shoulders. Her eyes brown. Like wood. And her whole face just stunning. But natural all the same.
Em. It's you.
Yes. It is. I heard what happened. Your mom called, I got the first flight out.
Why did you go?
Wait, what?
Why did you go?
Rem, it's not that simple you knew I had to go.
And why are you here now?
Because. Because I wanted to help you.
Help me with what?
Anything.
No.
Rem. Please.
No. You can't. You think you can just show up here now and-and that everything will get better! Well it's not. Did you know that I've been writing letters to you? But I never got to send them because the fire. See!
She picked up the papers and three then up, the fluttered everywhere. Then years started flowing slowly down her cheeks.
Em. I've made up my mind. You were all I needed to be okay anymore. And when I needed you, you weren't there. You weren't there at the time I needed you most. And you can't change that.
Em reached out and hugged Rem. Then she started crying, not sob crying, but lightly. Only Rem could hear it.
Em. I have made up my mind. I don't need you anymore...I blame you.
And like that the roof quietly slipped. It fell onto two girls that had just reunited. Emigail and Remmi. And just like that they were trapped, their arms around each other and slowly but all at once, they both stopped breathing. At the same time. Nobody, not even the people walking past as it fell knew they were in there. All they had was a little jump and a turn of the head to see that it had fell and nothing else was thought about it.
