You'd think that waking up to your wife screaming would be the least of your worries, but no you run up the stairs to your infant sons nursery. Nothing seems out of place except the small drop of blood that lands on Sams blanket, and then onto your hand. You look at the ceiling only to find your wife strung to it bloody. Not 5 seconds later she bursts into a ball of flames. After that, you spend 99.9% of your time becoming a well known hunter and leaving Dean to care for his brother Sam for most of his life.
Becoming a hunter, it's not the easiest job on the planet, in fact it gets a little gross. You have to set aside logic and face what's in front of you, even if it appears to be a human. It could be a number of things. The first thing you do before you do anything is identify what you're up against. Research is everything if you want to defeat and kill this monster. Most of the time in order to identify a monster you will more than likely have to search through a multitude of bibles and online research. Now, sometimes there are the simple things, like Ghosts or Demons. Ghosts can go from being the same person they were before they died to becoming the meanest things (unless they were mean before death, then they just become meaner) which is why Salt is your number one weapon against Ghosts. Make a salt circle around you if you're in a pinch but, the best thing to do is salt the windows and doors. Note that this can only work if the line stays connected. Anything that can be used as a doorway salt it. An added layer of protection is fill shotgun shells with rock salt and use them to make a ghost dissipate, though this is temporary you can also use Iron. The only real way to rid a ghost is to find, salt the bones and burn them with a flammable substance such as gasoline. If the body has been cremated find and burn any object the ghost could be using as an attachment
Demons they're a bit harder to controle. What you need is a devils trap.

It doesn't matter if its hidden or if it's out in the open, as long as a demon crosses over the circle it can not leave, unless the trap has been broken. Usually, you can use this to get information but the way to get rid of a demon is to exorcize it. Another way to hurt a demon is with holy water. Some say you can put a blessed rosary in any water source and it becomes holy water. It would just be easier to find a church with holy water and take it from there.

See, becoming a hunter isn't easy. You have to give up any relationship you have, romantic ones at best. This is a full time job with no room for love interest.
