I was awoken by the sound of Magna banging on my door yelling “Clove get up right now!! We’ll be in the Capitol any minute and you’re still lying around!” I quickly got up and walked out the door, not wanting to shove Magna out of the way so I ran into her. When I walked past her she groaned and ran the other way, probably to go give herself an extra bath so she could be fresh and crisp for the Capitol. I entered the dining car and Brutus and Enobaria were talking to Cato. When Enobaria saw me, she motioned for me to come over. I’m glad I brushed my hair before I came over here because Cato was looking really good.

“As I was saying,” Brutus started. “You look fine right now, but go out there and be tough. We will be mentoring you, so this is where it starts. You need to look vicious so the other tributes will be intimidated.  No more of this touchy feely crap. You need to be as menacing as possible and if you act like you’re in love then you‘ll never make it out of that arena alive. Got it?” I nodded, but Cato just stood there.

The train came to a sudden halt. I could hear the cheers from the outside of the train. The Capitol people were here to see a glimpse of the new tributes so they could start the betting. Betting on who would win and who would lose. I figured there wouldn’t be that many bets on my name. No from the get go. I stepped off the train and the sudden brightness of colors was over-whelming. When my vision adjusted I got a huge glimpse of the people of the Capitol.

The people I could see had very bright colored hair. Some had green hair, some had blue, but the most shocking was a boy about the age of twelve who had a rainbow hairdo. He stared at me and I quickly looked away. He was lucky he didn’t have to do the hunger games. I passed people with little hearts on the eye lashes and purple stars painted on their cheeks. Their shoes were twice the size of Magna’s I could only guess that her shoes were downsized because she had to run around with us tributes for a week.

As soon as we get into a building we’re whisked away by our prep team. I catch their names but I’m sure I couldn’t pronounce them right. Xanthe, the woman who could talk your ear off, made me strip my clothes off and she hosed me down.

Xanthe had a dark green wig on that was twisted up in a bun. Her skin was pierced in many places such as her lip and eyebrows. Her eyebrows were pierced five times each. She didn’t come off to me as hard rocking; she came off to me as bubbly and happy. She had on a teal plastic cover on so she could protect her expensive Capitol clothes.

Then Shine and Isys put this gel on my legs, arms, torso, armpits, and above my upper lip. They then took a strip of paper and put it on the slimy gel. After about ten minutes of then running around chattering about nothing in particular, they come back and start ripping off the strips. I grit my teeth because I hurt so badly. “What are you doing?”

“Hahaha,” Isys laughs. “My dear, we are removing the fifthly hair from your soon to be beautiful legs.” She says it like I was supposed to know it, like it was obvious.

“What about my arms and other places?”

“Oh, honey, you don’t understand anything do you,” she said in a high pitched voice that got on my nerves. “You’re hairy everywhere. It needs to be all off before we even let Alyc see you. Even then he has the option to remove more. You need to be perfect for the Opening Ceremonies tonight.” I totally forgot that the whole reason I was going through this pain was so I could get looked over by my stylist and then he would create my costume for the Opening Ceremonies, then he would do my costume for my interviews at the very end of the time here in the Capitol.

The Opening Ceremonies are when the tributes from each district go out in a chariot and they dress up in costumes from their district. So Cato and I will be in the same chariot dressed as something from district two.

When they were done plucking me of all my body hair, they left me in the room with a robe sitting on the table. I didn’t put it on because my stylist will just have me take it off to study my body. I heard the door open and a young man walked through.

He had on a brown shirt and khaki pants. He looked about twenty-five, which is young for a stylist. His hair was blonde, like Cato’s, but not styled the same. His hair was slicked over to the side while Cato’s was spiked up. His skin was pasty white.

I stood up tall, not afraid to be looked at. He circled me and poked and prodded me in places. He poked my arms to see how much muscle was on them. “Put the robe on,” he said. I slide it on and he motioned for me to follow him. I sat down on the couch that was there and he sat across from me on a chair. “We’ve come up with the costume for the Opening Ceremonies.” I look at him expectantly, but he just laughed.
