Elena:
'Do you know what I would like to do now?' I ask.
'What?'
'Go out to get some fresh air,' I answer, and he immediately offers me his shoulder, helps me to stand up and he escorts me out of the house. Breathing deeply, I take in the smell of the wind; I can smell some flowers and also Elijah's cologne. I make a few steps away from him because he smells too good, and it makes my brain black out.
I close my eyes, and I enjoy the life outside. 'Mmmm, this is nice,' I say when the breeze strokes my cheek. I suddenly realise that it's not the breeze that's stroking me; it's a man's hand. I open my eyes, and Elijah is standing right next to me, and it gives me chills on the back of my neck.
'You're going to be OK,' he promises me, and he speaks in such a serious voice that it's impossible not to believe him. I lap up every word he says. 'I'll personally take care of that.'
'Erm,' I clear my throat. 'Have I already thanked you for everything?'
'You have,' he assures me with a tiny smile. 'But trust me, my help is unselfish. I like helping you.'
'You're an incredibly compassionate person, Elijah,' I observe.
'I sympathise with people who don't deserve to suffer. And even a little bit more with those who only deserve the best. Like you.'
In astonishment, I am taken aback by his perfect way with words. Everything about Elijah is perfect. His turn of phrase, his suit, his inner peace... and also his appearance, I think, and I unwittingly start to blush. I'm immensely grateful for the cold breeze that will cool down my burning cheeks.
'I will be here for you,' swears Elijah. 'You will have a new life. A different one, but a beautiful one. Do you trust me?'
I look at him, and I can't say no, even if I didn't trust him. 'I do,' I utter then, and I can't miss how pleased he looks. I can't help a smile either, and out of the sudden, we're both simpering like idiots, only that he still looks so perfect; he's a true gentleman after all. And he's killing time here with me. I really have to appreciate that. So I ask him to stay for dinner. He agrees, and I think to myself that I'm really very lucky that he's here with me because otherwise... I hold back a tear when I imagine that... Otherwise, I would be here completely alone.
