"Explain. Now." Erwin said, a not very happy expression on his face.

Hanji backed away. Levi could tell she was nervous. He walked into the water and kneeled next to her.

"Don't worry four-eyes, we're in this together," he said, gently touching her cheek.

"Okay?"

"Okay," Hanji replied.

Levi picked her up and walked to shore. He shot an angry glare at Erwin. Levi didn't care who it was, if someone upset Hanji, it made him mad. Hanji wouldn't look at Erwin. Levi set her down on a larger rock.

"Talk," Erwin said.

"I um..." Hanji stammered.

"Talk now or I will have to order you to," Erwin said.

Hanji whimpered and looked down.

"Do not talk to her like that," Levi snapped.

"Can't you see this is not something that's easy to talk about for her?! Don't push her, let her take her time and tell you when she's ready."

Erwin was surprised by this outburst. He'd known Levi to get angry at things, like if you didn't clean well or if you made a mess, but never about something like this.

"He's protecting her," Erwin thought.

"Levi...it's all right," Hanji said quietly.

"No, it is not," Levi replied.

"He may be our commanding officer but I will not let him speak to you in such a tone."

"What is going on you two?" Erwin asked.

Hanji sighed.

"It all happened many months ago," she said.

Hanji and Levi proceeded to tell Erwin everything that had happened.

"The explosion in your office caused you to turn into this?" Erwin asked.

"Yes, and so far, I haven't found a cure for it," Hanji replied.

"We'll keep working on it," Levi said.

Hanji and Levi continued to tell Erwin about the titan attack as well, considering they'd kept that quiet too.

"So that's what all your injuries were from," Erwin said.

"The titan attack?"

"Yes," Hanji replied.

"We didn't want to go around drawing attention to her so we kept it as quiet as possible," Levi said.

"So only Levi and myself know about this?" Erwin asked.

"No," Levi replied.

"How many others?" Erwin asked.

"Braun, Jaeger, Braus, Ackerman, Arlert and Kirschtein," Levi replied.

"And they haven't said anything?" Erwin said.

"They've kept quiet," Hanji replied.

"That is good," Erwin said.

"I do not want the higher ups knowing about this. If they do...they might take you away or something."

Hanji's blood ran cold. Levi could see that the thought scared her. He sat down behind her and hugged her.

"I won't let those bastards touch you," Levi said.

"I promise you."

Hanji moved closer into his arms and chest, feeling safe.

"I know you will Levi," she said.

Levi slowly stroked her hand with his thumb.
