Today was the day...
It was the first day of college and I had just finished my usual blueberry pancakes with a strawberry and mango smoothie, ready to start the day. College started at 9 but I wanted to cycle meaning I would have to leave at 8:30, leaving me an hour to get ready and pack my football equipment.
Today was football trials for the women's team, it was the perfect opportunity to show that I had fully recovered from injury and ready to play at a higher level. Grassroots football always seemed easy to me, but it was local and my mother did not want to make the effort of taking me to a good team. She was too stuck in her business with my step-dad.
College was a fresh start, I knew nobody as I decided to go to a college where I could play football whereas my friends were dancers and went down the more educational route. My mum hated the fact I didn't focus more on my grades but I knew that football was what I wanted to do. None of my friends was that close and a lot of them were fake and were just friends for the popularity.
Chucking my football boots into my bag I was almost ready for the long day ahead. I decided that my blonde hair would be more practical in a high ponytail. Also, I put on a small amount of makeup and dressed in my usual basic t-shirt with black ripped jeans. I had a tomboy style as I preferred comfort rather than objectifying my body.
When I got to college it was... different from what I was used to. Most people carried an 'I don't care' attitude which was nice as it was very similar to my own.
Tutor was the first lesson, and It was already boring me I just wanted to get out onto the pitch and play football. I was sat next to this guy named Alfie, who was tall dark haired and bearded. He seemed pretty cool but was obviously interested in the girl in front, Maria.
"You know you could just ask her out?" I pointed out, not looking at him.
"You say that like it's easy" I turned to him.
"It is" I laughed "I'm Rose by the way" Alfie looked kinda pleased that someone was talking to him as he looked just as bored as me.
"I'm Alfie... what subjects are you studying?" He asked trying to keep the conversation flowing.
I looked at him oddly as if to say that's the most cliche' thing he could ask "Biology, psychology and sports education (PE), what about you?" I replied as I had nothing better to do as Mr Brown was still boring the class.
"English lit, business and psychology" Alfie replies seemingly pleased we both study phycology. "Well considering we're both loners maybe you could be my wing lady?" He grinned.
"Hey who said I was a loner?" I said punching his arm.
"Well considering everyone else seems to be sat in friendship groups apart from me and you"
I looked around and his statement was very true."Ok I will be your wing lady, but before you get any ideas, I'm not straight"
"I'll keep that in mind" he laughed but was interrupted by the bell. "Here take my number, you may need a friend at lunch" he gave me a piece of paper with his number on.
"Hmm maybe... I will cya around" I threw my rucksack onto my back and started to leave the room.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry", a brown-haired girl offered me her hand since I was on my ass on the floor. "I didn't see you coming, I was in my own world"
It took me a while to process what she was saying as her green eyes pierced into mine. "Uh- uhm don't worry about it" I stuttered making a fool of myself.
"Well I will see you around I suppose" and with that, she was gone.
I felt someone behind me, "maybe I will be your wingman instead" Alfie whispered smugly and walked off, leaving me with red cheeks in the corridor on my own.
