{Author's Note
Hello! Welcome back! Sheesh, it's been a while but a shit ton of things have been happening in my life. But, my last story got like 30 reads so that's pretty cool. I think flower crowns have been written about a lot in the Camp Camp Dadvid fandom but who cares, I had fun. I want to put up more stories but I dunno what is actually completed and not too weird to upload. All my stories are kinda sad but I hope you enjoy anyway! I might add onto this but yeah.}

The end month had come. The last month of the summer, then all the campers would go home for the year. David would miss the heck out of all his little campers. Especially Max.
Max had been a little on edge, and David knew why. If he was honest, David was scared too. He really didn't want to let Max go back to that awful household. He didn't think he legally could. He needed to talk to Max, and today was the perfect day for it.

Max was laughing and playing with Nikki and Neil, getting up to their usual mischief.
David sighed, and walked up with a smile.
"Heya, kids! Beautiful day, isn't it?"
"Meh." Neil shrugged.
"Why? Are we going hiking?!" Nikki jumped up.
David giggled.
"No, not today. Soon though. I just wanted to talk to Max."
The Indian boy groaned.
"What, David. I haven't done jack shit."
David half-smiled.
"I know. You're not in trouble. I just want...I need to talk about some things with you. If, that's ok?"
Max looked at his friends, then back at David.
"What things?"
David looked around.
"Well, private things that maybe you don't want anyone except me to know. End of summer stuff."
Max frowned.
"Oh."
Nikki and Neil were as clueless as each other.
Max put his hands in his pockets.
"...I uh...Do we have to?"
David gave a sympathetic look.
"I know it's not something you like talking about but, we have to. Get it over with."
Max sighed.
"Fine."
David patted his head.
"Good boy. Sorry kiddos. Max and me'll be back before you know it."
He said happily.
"Can't we come?" Nikki complained.
"No, i'm sorry. I promise, i'll be as quick as I can."
Neil was suspicious.
"Sorry guys. DON'T do 'it' without me. Seriously." Max warned.
"Yeah yeah."

Max and David walked to the counsellor cabin. David grabbed his bag from just inside, and locked his door.
"Righto. Let's go Max."
Max looked at the cabin, then at David.
"Where are we-"
"I thought we'd go on a walk and have a bit of a picnic or something. The cabin's a little boring, and, maybe it'll be less stressful out in the open with some fresh air."
Max nodded silently and followed David on their walk.

Max looked up at David. He had a neutral face. Not too serious but not happy like usual.
Max felt kinda nervous.
"Almost there buddy. Just through these trees."
A few hundred metres and they walked through to a small, open field, trees surrounding the place, tons of flowers around the place.
David placed a blanket down and sat, patting the ground next to him.
The boy hesitated, but came and sat near David, leaving a large gap.
"I uh...I don't want to scare you. But...what you've got to understand is that, there are laws I have to follow. And...legal parts to all this. I'm so sorry we have to talk about this, I know you don't want too, I really don't either. But I can't send you home to abusive parents. I haven't contacted police or authorities because I wanted you here with me. I didn't think it was fair to have you sent to camp then have to leave halfway through because you got taken away to a care home. Maybe that was a selfish move but, you mean a lot to me. I just want to make sure you're safe."
Max did whatever it took to make sure they never made eye contact.
"What I want to figure out...is what happens at the end of summer. Where you want to go."
Max was silent.
"Seriously Max. Where do you want to be? At home with your parents? Foster care? No matter how far fetched or difficult it'd be, where do you want to go? Because i'll stop at nothing to make sure you're safe where you want to be. Do you have other family?"
Max shook his head.
"Well how about-"
"You."
David stopped.
"...Excuse me?"
Max wiped his eyes.
"I want to be with you, asshole."
He mumbled.
David's pupils shook.
"You...you want to live with me?"
Max nodded, shaking.
David chocked.
"...I...Seriously?"
Max was scared.
"I...It doesn't matter, i'm just going to end up with some strangers alone so-"
"Max. I'd love nothing more."
Max wiped his eyes, but tears kept coming.
David picked him up, hugging him tightly.
Max grabbed onto David's shirt.
"So it's decided then. When your parents come, i'll speak to them. I'm sure they wouldn't mind letting me take you."
Max wiped his nose.
"If they come."
David put some of Max's fluffy hair behind his ear.
"Oh buddy. I love you, alright?"
Max nodded, burying his face in David's neck.
David rubbed his back gently, knowing he had some sores.
"Now, I made some cupcakes and sandwiches for us. I may have even brought some games up. But it's our secret."
Max let go, smirking.
"Tut tut, David."
The red head blushed.
"Please don't tell anyone. I'll never get anyone off their phones if I let them have them."
Max sat back down, but closer to David this time.
"I won't. I already get to use your phone anyway."
David forgot about that.
"As long as you don't go through my personal things or message anybody, yes, you can use it."
Max giggled slightly.

David opened his bag and pulled out a lunchbox, opening it and setting the food down.
"Help yourself."
Max grabbed a sandwich, eating it slowly.
David grabbed one for himself, and bit into it. He looked around, hearing birds chirping. Gosh, it was such a beautiful day.
Without thinking, he picked a flower, staring at it. He put it in Max's hair.
"What the fuck are you doing?!"
David snapped out of his daze.
"Sorry! I got carried away. I'll take it out."
Max slapped his hand away, David eyeing him off. Max blushed.
"...You...You put dirty plants in my hair i'm doing it to you."
David beamed.
"Awww."
"Shut the fuck up! This is revenge. You know what kind of animal could have pissed on these weeds?"
David leant his head down, Max positioning a flower in the red-head hair.
David beamed.
"Does it look nice?"
Max stepped back.
"...I don't know. How good are plants supposed to look in hair? As good as it could look?"
David giggled.
"I'll take it then."
