"We are now arriving in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is currently 7:03 am at our destination and it is 12:03 pm at our starting location! We hope you enjoyed your flight, and make sure to dress lightly, as the temperature is a scalding 95 degrees Fahrenheit!" I jolt awake and pull out my earbuds, and stuff them into my carry-on. Like the rest of the passengers on the plane, I stand up and collect my luggage, then waiting in the walkway to file out of the aircraft and into the gate.
After 2 hours or so of baggage claim and security checks, I wait on the curb of the sidewalk outside of the airport, waiting for a taxi to take me to my hotel. And, at last, I am able to catch one with the wave of my hand. I step backwards a little bit as the car nears my position. "Hello! Let me collect your luggage." The man steps out of his SUV and makes his way over to me, and then proceeds to haul my 3 suitcases into the trunk of the car. As he does so I pull open the backseat door and slip into the car. "Hello! Where to?" the man says as he enters the driver's seat. "The Sheraton Waikiki please." I respond. "Of course." he smiles back at me.
We arrive at the hotel 45 minutes later and I am taken aback about how beautiful it is. The palm trees glisten with the dew of last nights mist, reflecting minuscule rainbows scattered across the ground. The sky is a beautiful shade of periwinkle, the sun set somewhat low into the sky. All around the walkway are flowers of all kinds, from salmon colored hibiscuses to sunset-like birds of paradise, the whole area is bursting with color and I stand there, in awe of the beauty. I almost forget to thank my driver, and as he drives away, leaving me with my bags, I am struck with inspiration.
