I wake up to the smell of French Toast. Sammy always wakes up really early, she also goes to sleep by like 9:00 so that's probably why she can wake up so early. I get dressed and run downstairs.
"Good morning Sam!" I say as I grab a plate and put some French Toast and Eggs on it.
"Did you sleep well in your new room?" she asks as she hands me the syrup.
"Yes better than back at home." I always had trouble falling asleep. I was always worried that if I fell asleep something may happen. When I was a kid my mother would always have different guys over. She still does. A lot of those guys would try to do stuff to me as soon as she fell asleep. I Guess once the kids were born I got worried that something like that would happen to them. I never really got much sleep after Kara was born. And even less sleep when Micca was born.
After I finish eating I rinse my plate and grab the newspaper sitting on the counter. I need to start looking for a job. I flip open the newspaper to the job ads and look through to see if there are any I would be interested in. Housecleaning? Nah I barely like cleaning my own room let alone someone else's. Babysitting? Ehh maybe, kids aren't exactly my thing, I can handle them it's just my anxiety goes crazy when I have to watch other people's kids.
"OH! Here's one!" I explained. Not exactly realizing I said it out loud.
"What is it loud mouth?" Sam replied laughing.
"Veterinary Assistant!" I love animals! This would be great! "It's $8 an hour"
"Hmm okay why don't you call it? That would be a great job for you. And the Veterinary hospital is only 2 blocks away, so you can walk until you save up enough to get a car."
"Okay." I walk back up to my room, sit on my bed, and grab my phone to call. They told me I could come in today for an interview. I walk downstairs and tell Sam everything they said. "Could you possibly drive me today? Just so I know exactly how to get there?"
"Umm yeah I could do that." She walks to her room then comes out with her keys. We both put on our shoes and head out to the car. When we get there I get out of the car and go to walk in. "I am going to head to the store really quick to get a few things, I should be back by the time you get done."
"Okay." I head inside and go to the front desk. I explain to the lady behind the desk that I called earlier and was told to come in for an interview.
"Name?" she replies not looking up from her computer. She is fairly skinny and looks pretty snotty. She has long blonde hair and bright green eyes. Her makeup is simple but has a strong statement. She seems like the kind of girl my mother would be friends with.
"Jordan. Jordan Malibu."
"Oh yes, Dr. Harper should be out soon. If you could just have a seat he will call you when he is ready for you." I shake my head and walk over to sit down. I look around the room and scan my eyes across the people in the room. Something is weird about people here. Everyone either has really bright green eyes, or dark brown eyes that almost look red. Like vampire eyes. I have never seen eyes like this.
"Jordan Malibu?" finally I hear my name called. I walk back and follow the doctor down the hall until we get to what I would guess is his office. He is a tall and fit man. He is slim but has muscles. He is a darker man, with a well done buzz cut. We walk into the room. He sits and instructs me to sit across from him. When I sit down I glance towards him and notice he has eyes that look more orange than anything. He asks normal questions that people normally ask at job interviews. Then he started to ask more un-expected questions. "You aren't from here are you?"
"Umm no, why?" this question kind of confuses me. Why would this matter?
"Uhh No reason just wondering." I feel like there is a reason. I am going to have to look into this town. I don't know what it is but things here are just strange. We finish up the interview and he asks for my number. He said he will look into it. If he has an opening he will call me in for a walk through, and for me to get all the information I need.
