"How can she turn me away?" I questioned to no one in particular, despite my pudgy companion, Lefou, listening to me from behind, my voice high in disbelief. "Me!" I stated, my hands meeting my chiseled chest with a slap from my palms, I slammed my hands back down to the sides of my chair.
I forcibly shoved myself upwards from the handles of the bear skinned chair, I trudged over to the drink that was half empty on the counter of the bar. I downed it in one go before slamming it down, cracking the glass effectively, it didn't satisfy my growing displeasure however.
Lefou came up behind me, his wide smile settled on his face like always, "She's just not ready for the commitment, Gaston!" He says and I give him a side look before he continues, "Imagine, such a woman as Josette, receiving the attention of the whole town for capturing the eye of the most wanted bachelor in Villeneuve!" Lefou raised a brow looking at me to see if i understood, his lips curving into a pleased smirk.
I huffed pushing away from the counter. "But, that's the point, you imbecile!" I insulted. "I want to gather the towns attention. Josette is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen," I chuckled at the thought of every person who would be admiring us together. "And with me she's not only beautiful but the most wanted maiden in Paris. I enjoy the challenge, to know that men will only fight for such a woman, for I already know the winner, Lefou." I admitted, fixing the edge of my collar in the reflection of the metallic container next to the beer barrel.
Lefou shifted in uncertainty. "Well, how do you expect to get in her good favors again? She had ventured off late in the night only days ago, she still has yet to come home."
The news caught my attention as I turned to look at him. "Are you sure?" I demanded from him, he quickly nodded before pointing down towards the doors of the pub.
"Lucille had arrived, early this morning. The baker, Monsieur Morgan, had informed me up in seeing her in the rising." He assured me, I narrowed my eyes before grabbing my coat from the coat hanger.
"She must be hiding from me, the little minx." I chuckled at the thought, I jogged to the door before being stopped by Lefou in mid stride. I held back from rolling my eyes as I stared down at the pudgy fool, "I have a bride to marry Lefou. Get out of my way." I warned.
Lefou shakes his head with a nervous grin. "It would be better to wait for a while," my nostrils flared and he must have noticed as he spoke hurriedly, sweat producing on his brow. "Josette must've came back from a long trip, rest is needed before someone would mention such a thing as marriage. Who's to say she wouldn't reject you again if she weren't properly rested?"
He received a bump on the head shortly after that statement with a whine of pain, "You will do well to know who I am, Lefou!" I turned on my heel walking back to my chair and plopping down on it, a glass of brewed beer in my hand. "No one rejects me. Josette had only been tricked by that wretched family of hers, but that will be no problem when we marry. They won't be my problem any longer, she'll be all mine." I eyed the light brown liquid swirling in my glass with a malicious gaze, my smirk never leaving my face at the thought of my lovely bride to be.
