I had managed to get another hour and a half of sleep that night. It was a struggle to get out of bed. My feet touched my soft rug and I walked into the bathroom. I had been terrified to look in the mirror since my father broke out of prison. Now more than ever because, with him dead, who would fill his shoes? I feared that something would happen and make me go all psycho, like him. Slowly I directed my eyes eyes to the mirror. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding upon seeing my own face in the mirror.
Half an hour later a was ready for work and I walked out my door.
I hear a whoosh noise and look up to see what is was. A blue and red figure was floating down to stand beside me.
"Hey" Supergirl said, as I followed her into an alley by my building.
"Hi." I said trying my best to seem awake and alert, I wasn't.
"Want to life to the D.E.O?" She asked excitedly.
This made me perk up. Kara always made me feel better.
"Would I ever!" I said smiling back.
She walked behinds me picked me up by my upper arms and flew into the sky. She tried to stay low but hidden since I, as a human, could not stand absolute zero.
(A/N if you don't know what absolute zero is. It's a temperature on the Kelvin scale, which is one of the temperature scales like Celsius and Fahrenheit. On the scale 0 kelvins or absolute zero, is temperature where EVERYTHING FREEZES. EVERYTHING. Even matter. All the particles, everything. If the world get exposed to that temperature, it would freeze instantly. That's how cold I imagine it gets up beyond the clouds.)
She straightens up, so we are floating in am standing up position, and slowly drops down, so I wouldn't fall.
"You should do that more often." I said.
She just looked at me and smiled.
"Morning, Agent Schott, Supergirl." J'onn nodded to us, as we walked down the stairs into the D.E.O.
"I'm afraid we have some bad news."
"Winn, the women who was working for your father, his 'apprentice', she escaped from jail last night." Alex said walking into the main area.
"No.." I said shocked.
"H-how? When? W-where is she?" I asked walking up to the round table.
"Her last known location, was the toy warehouse we found her at last time. She hasn't been seen since."
Alex answered.
"Well lest go the warehouse and get her." Supergirl said.
"It's not that simple. She-she has a hostage. She's threatening to kill them if Winn doesn't show up at the warehouse tonight." Alex said.
"How do you know?" Supergirl asked, placing her hand on her hips.
"We received this in our daily mail." Alex said handing Kara a ransom note detailing everything Alex said.
"Ok, there is nothing that says he can't go alone. I can go and take some agents with me. Winn confronts the woman and the agents and I run in, grab her and bring her back to the much higher security prison." Supergirl said.
"Yeah, that's what we were thinking too." Alex said.
"Murphy, Andrews, White. Suit up. I want you out there. You too Agent Danvers. Murphy take Mr. Schott to the armoury with you and gear him up." J'onn ordered.
45 minutes later we are all suited up, wearing bullet proof vests and heavy boots.
~Half an hour later~
We pulled up to the warehouse. Supergirl lands in front of us.
"I checked the perimeter of the building. Seems clear." She said.
Alex whispered something to the other agents, and they all quietly went off in separate directions.
" Supergirl, Winn you too will be the only ones seen. I'm going to stay back around the walls. If you need us, we will be there." Alex said.
We all walked into the building and Alex split off from us.
Me and Supergirl quietly walked through the hallway. Hundreds of shelves were on either side of us.
We got to the room, me and my mother had defeated her last time.
"Winn.." Supergirl said pointing to a cage in the corner of the room.
In the cage sat.. my mother. She had a cut in her lip, but she didn't look to be hurt, just tired.
I started to yell and move but Supergirl stopped me.
"We can't blow our cover" she whispered.
"Oh, but you already have." Said a loud voice.
Suddenly Supergirl screamed and fell to the ground. Sticking out of her shoulder was a Kryptonite dart. She layed on the ground unconscious.
(A/N so by now you've probably noticed I like writing about kidnappings and people getting hurt and stuff. It's weird. I'm not like crazy obsessed with death though, don't worry.)
A flung around to look at who shot the dart. And there she was standing with her arm it pointing the gun, my fathers apprentice.
"Winslow Schott Jr. lovely of you to stop by. Mommy dearest has been waiting for you." She said, taunting me.
"Let her go." I said clenching my fists.
"What's the fun in that? I don't even want her, I want you. She's just leverage." She scoffed.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked.
"Why, because. It's why your father wanted me to do. If your mother eve went near you, I would kill you, and that what I'm going to do." She said. She had been moving her hand around on the gun as she was speaking, now I realized she had replaced the dart with a bullet.
Like it was in slow motion, she pulled the trigger, I ducked, and I heard a scream from behind me. Time stood still, as I stared in horror at my mothers bloody chest. The bullet had entered her skin exactly where her heart was.
"NO!" I screamed and I ran as fast as I could. I pulled my mother up to the bars of the cage held her, and checked her pulse. Nothing. She was dead. Suddenly I was filled was rage. My eyes got cloudy and I heard a muffled gunshot, my fathers apprentice was dead on the ground. Then I realized. I didn't care. I felt no remorse. None. I walked over the cage kissed my mother on the forehead and walked back over to the, still, unconscious Supergirl. I picked her up and walked out of the building.
{Kara's POV) I woke up not knowing where I was. My shoulder hurt like hell. I slowly sat up massaging my shoulder and looked around. I was in a dark apartment. My eyes started to adjust to the darkness and I recognized some furnishings. I book shelves with figurines on them. The bean bag chairs. I was in Winn's apartment? The last thins I remember was being in that warehouse with Winn and seeing his mother in that cage.
"Winn?" I asked into the darkness.
"Hey." I heard a determined and hurt, yet somehow proud, voice say.
