I didn't know how long I had been flying for. All I knew was that i had probably circled the city about 8 times. Every once in a while i would stop and just listen. For anything. For Winn's voice. For his heart beat. Anything. But every time I heard nothing. I was so close to giving up when I heard it. It wasn't very loud, and it was very distant, but I heard it.
"supergirl" said a quiet voice I knew to be Winn's. The voice I hadn't heard in so long.
"Alex! I got something!" I said into my com as I flew towards the sound.
I landed in front of an old store front. The sign just barley read Rocky's Bar. It looked like it had been abandoned for a few years. The two buggy windows in the front were covered by paper so I couldn't see inside. I carefully broke the lock on the doors and quietly walked inside. As soon as the was inside I could hear two voices, I recognized both. Winn's. And his father's.
"Guys. I know who broke Winn out of containment." I whispered into my com.
"Who?" I heard Alex say.
"I don't have a name, but whoever they are, they're here."
"Supergirl, none of us want to hear this but Winn and this mystery man together could be very dangerous. Intervene." J'onn said.
I took a deep breath in and walked to the back of the store where I saw Winn and the mystery man, as we called him as of now.
Winn was slutching on a couch, with his hand on his forehead. The man was standing at a table fidgeting with something. Little green piece scattered the table.
"See, I knew you'd come around eventually. Pity about the apprentice though. I really enjoyed her company. But i honour her because she helped you figure out who you are. I respected your father and if you're sharing like him I respect you too. Hopefully you got his genius." The man said.
Winn stayed silent.
"Step away from the table." I said, acting strong, even though I was dying inside thinking about how this wild make Winn see what he could do.
"Ah, Supergirl. Welcome. You know Winn." mystery man said gesturing towards Winn. He didn't look at me. He just looked at his feet.
"You're going to jail." I said.
"Just me? Well that wouldn't be fair! Winn here is a murderer. Shouldn't he go too?"
I didn't know what to say to this, so I did what I do best. Defend. Defend myself. My friends. Winn. I ran towards him, and jumped. I flew into the air and slammed into the ground making the man fall over and Winn tighten his grip on the ark of the cough. He looked like the Winn I knew. So interested, and amazed by me fighting. Before I knew what was happening, my knees got shaky and I felt weak. And then the man had pinned me down. On of his hands holding both of mine above my head. In his other hand he was holding one of the little green rings he was fidgeting with when I arrived. I felt like I could vomit. It didn't look kryptonite but it sure felt like it.
"This. This can kill you. And then I can do whatever I want, without you watching my every move."
I couldn't say anything.
"Dude, don't. She's not worth it." I heard the voice i had been dying to here for the past few days say. He sounded dead. No emotion. Nothing.
And then the man was was off me.
"You're lucky Supergirl. The boss likes you." He said, before i stood up a punched him right to the side of his head, he fell to the ground unconscious."
"You came." Winn said, still no emotion in his voice.
He still didn't look at me, he just looked down at the man.
"Of course, Winn. No matter who you think you are. I'm always going to come for you." I said.
"Being here. With him. Made me realize how sad criminals lives are. He kept talking about how he hasn't talked to anyone in months. He's just angry. He wants people to pay. For some crap they did to him. I- I don't want to be like that. But I don't know what else to do Kara. I- I lost everything. My family. Right now my job. And my sanity. I just want to hurt someone..."
"You didn't loose me. Or James. or Alex. or even J'onn. Come back to the D.E.O with me. They can help you. and you'll be better in no time."
"okay." He said in barley a whisper.
I flew him back to the D.E.O. They took him out of containment and made a makeshift room for him. He had a cot and a sink. They brought him clothes and food. The next day he returned to his psychologist appointments.
