Chapter 17

              Continuing through to the other side, the fighting resumed instantly. They were in a part of the Digital World which was like a desert containing bare mounds. "Do you hear me? Homeostasis! We don't care if it's right or wrong! We will protect our important friends! That's all!" Tai yelled. The sky suddenly started to crack open with a dark pink light, similar to the lights that surrounded the distortions. It then shattered as Alphamon appeared, things looked to be getting worse now. "Alphamon?" Izzy questioned, "Ygdrasil?" Matt then spoke. There were now three sides fighting and all of them were going at each other at the same time. Rita hated seeing this, explosions were going off and she didn't know which to focus on. One large blast turned the Mega Digimon back into their In-training forms. Everyone ran to catch their falling partner, Rita caught Habumon tightly in her arms. Only Omnimon was left standing now, him, Meicoomon, Alphamon, and Jesmon. A brutal battle of Megas and it only grew worse, a sight too painful for a partner to witness. "Meicoomon! Don't make Meiko suffer anymore! Please!" Kari cried out. Rita felt sick, that pain only grew when Meiko then spoke. "Please... kill Mei..." Everyone turned to face her in shock. The broken look on Meiko's face made Rita's eyes fill with tears. "Meiko!" Kari cried out. "MeiMei! What are you saying?" Mimi yelled. "I can't... any longer..." Meiko spoke as she collapsed to the ground in tears. Sora then ran over to her, "I told you, partners are each other's hope! But you're only giving off despair!" Rita could feel Meiko's pain, even if she didn't want to agree, this was Meiko's decision and Rita understood. If Mikumon was going to destroy the world and everyone's partners... Mikumon would want to be destroyed... Meiko wasn't saying this just for everyone's sake... but for Meicoomon's as well. "Then... are you saying killing Meicoomon is your answer of hope?" Sora question in sadness. "No way... that's too sad!" Mimi cried. This answer though... was proof of how deeply Meiko loved her partner.

"Okay," Tai spoke. "Tai?" Matt and Kari both questioned. The silence grew before Tai again called out. "Omnimon!" "Stop!" Matt interjected. "This is the only way to stop Meicoomon!" Tai reasoned. "Wait! It's true that Meicoomon is the cause of everything... but Meicoomon is her partner, you know! Her one and only!" Joe argued. "Tai, you're going to put all of the responsibility on Meicoomon and put an end to everything?" Matt inquired, clearly devastated. "Yeah, I'm gonna end it! With our hands!" Tai confirmed. Rita knew it must be just as hard for him as everyone else, still... it had to be done and it broke Rita's heart. "We can't let them have their way... Meicoomon is one of us... I... won't run from our friend's pain! We are the DigiDestined!" Tai stated. "Omnimon!" Izzy called out, seeing that he was being overpowered. Rita clutched her arms as she watched Omnimon shove Meicoomon into the ground, imploding inwards. The impact cracked the earth, sending a shockwave towards the DigiDestined. Covering their eyes from the blow, Rita then opened her eyes to see Matt reach out and grab Tai by the collar. "Are you kidding me? Hope doesn't include sacrificing our friends! Tai!" Matt yelled as Izzy ran up to the both of them. "Please stop it! You should already know too Matt!" Izzy reasoned. Matt then backed off, even he knew what had to happen. Yelling out in frustration, everyone felt the sense of hopelessness. "Matt..." Tai spoke. "Thank you..." Meiko then said before she started to walk forward. Before anyone could stop her she then took off running. Everyone called after her as Matt darted behind her. Tai quickly followed, however when Rita and the others tried they were stopped by Mr.Nishijima. "Don't! Stay here!" He ordered as he then ran after them himself. Rita didn't know what to feel, she just hoped her thoughts were wrong... Meiko wasn't planning on dying alongside Meicoomon... was she?"
