june 12th, one week until the next full moon

"Where's Grayson and Rebekah?" I ask Claire as I sit down at lunch. "Probably hooking up in the library somewhere," Asher replies. The whole table laughs. The boys go into the kitchen to buy lunch, leaving Claire and me alone. I grab my phone out of my back pocket and I feel someone's eyes on me. I look around the cafeteria to see a boy, sitting at a table alone. As soon as my eyes catch him, he looks away.

I elbow Claire, "Hey, who's that guy over there staring at me?" I nudge my head at him.

"Don't think about it Dyl, he's bad news. He's a Bloodwolf." I make a face at her, "So? What does that mean?"

"You don't know? That pack is our number one enemy. They're the second-largest pack in Colorado, following behind us," Claire replies; I'm not sure if someone was supposed to tell me that information but now I know. "Maybe he isn't a big role in his pack, maybe he's just a part of it because he's a werewolf. What if I just went to talk to him?"

"If Alpha," she starts to whisper, "or even Asher and Adrian find out, it's your funeral."

"I'm not scared of Asher and I'm definitely not scared of Adrian, I'll be alright. Trust me, Claire," I roll my eyes and shove my phone back into my pocket and walk over to him.

"I felt the need to come over here since you were staring at me."

He laughs, "Sorry about that. You just looked familiar to me. My name's Nolan." I smile at him, "Delaney." I take a seat across from him at the table and he seems surprised by my action.

He clears his throat, "Sorry again for staring, it just seemed weird that I had never seen you sitting at that table with those kids before."

I wave him off, "Don't worry about it. I've just recently started hanging out with that group, they're really friendly."

"How'd you meet?"

"Well actually long story short, I knew a couple of them when I was younger but I guess we fell off for a couple of years until recently," I completely avoid the fact that they went to Baynes during that time because he may know something about the school.

He nods his head, "It's a small world."

"It really is," I join in with his nodding. I glance back at my table to see that the guys are still in line for lunch and Claire is still sitting all alone with no Rebekah in sight.

Things become awkward between us before he speaks, "If I'm being completely honest, I was staring at you because I think you're pretty."

I raise my eyebrows, surprised by what came out of his mouth by and thank him for the compliment.

He scratches the back of his head, "Do you think we could maybe go out sometime? It's kinda a long shot but I guess I'd just go for it so-"

"That would be nice, sure."

"How about next Monday? It's my only night off from work coming up," he explains.

My nose scrunches.

That's my first full moon.

I frown at him, "I think I may have to take a rain date. My parents are going to be out of town for an extended weekend and I have to watch my little brother."

"Oh, no worries! How about I just give you my number so we can figure out a place and a time?"

I nod and we trade phones to exchange numbers.

I smile and wave as I get up and leave the table, Rebekah is sitting with Claire fixing her eyelashes in her phone camera.

Claire looks up at me as I sit down next to her, "So?"
