I stretched my hand freely once I got out of the car. Finally, I am back to my flat. My 1 month vacation is absolutely perfect. I got to bond with my lola, I was able to meet my long lost bestfriend, I finished my book series, I got an inspiration, I had another story waiting for me and my mind is on its track again. Ready to create a story. Almost flawless if only my father wouldn't broke a news to me once I got out of the plane. He will introduce his prospect partner to me. The son of his friend where I destined to be married.
She lay in her bed and massaged her forehead. She now felt the heavy feelings she got for this favored. "Is this the price of being a good daughter?" She asked herself and heaved a sighed. She closed her eyes to sleep hoping that it will help her to escape from her dilemma even just for awhile.
She checked the time from her phone. Her eyes widen when she realized that she's already late at her dinner meeting. She got 15 missed calls from her father and a text message. Reading her father disappointment to her broke her heart. She quickly changed her clothes and applied a little make up on herself. when she's contented with her looks, she run to her car and maneuvers it to their meeting place. She saw her father patiently waiting on his chair. She came near him and get herself known that she arrived. She breath calmly when she noticed that her father is alone on their table. Guess I'm not late at all. She thought.
"Papa." She sat in front of him.
"I can't believe you had that bright aura after what you just did, Nina."
A smile plastered in her face turned bitter. That's the first time she heard his father used that tone to her. She must have really did something terrible. "I'm so sorry, Papa. Am I really that late? I thought I'm early before them?"
He irritable knotted his forehead. "Do you even check your time, hija?. The meeting is in sharp 7 pm and you arrived one hour late. It's already 8 o clocked in the evening. How come you're not late as you claimed it? Tell me."
Her mouth ajar. "I-I'm really sorry-"
"You embarrassed me in front of them. Didn't we agree on this matter long ago? Why are you backing up now?" He said interrupting her apologized.
It was her time to express her anger. "Papa, I am sorry okay? I overslept. I had a jetlagged and I coudn't do anything about it. If you only fixed this meeting 2 days or 1 day after I arrived, I wouldn't be late. Don't accused me anything without hearing my reason."
He sighed. "As you wished. Tomorrow, you shall meet him at their house. We are envited to have dinner with them. I expect you to come with me in time. Don't disappoint me even more, Nina. This should be the last." He told her.
"Yes, papa."
After a long paused. His father spoke. "By the way, I believed now that you really had a bad jetlagged. Looking at you now..." He shaked his head when she glanced at him. "You're missing the one piece of your eye lashes extension."
Her eyes widen. "Truly?"
When he nodded. She immediately excused herself to go to the ladies restroom. She stared at her reflection. Her father was right. But she double checked herself in the mirror before coming there. Did it fall off? When she got back, there's already food in their table and her father still there.
"This food is heaven!" She commented after swallowing the first bite of her dish.
"I'm glad you like it. Welcome back, hija."
"Thank you, Papa."
"I noticed that you're not eating yet so I ordered. How's your vacation?"
"I thought you'd never ask. It was a blast..."
*********
She was shocked. Who wouldn't? Her crush is sitting in front of her. She pinched her legs to know if it's a dream but she felt a quick sharp of pain. She now believed that this is really happening. It was all true. Real. No joke. She forced to glance at his father to digest what he's saying. "Pardon, Papa? Will you repeat what you just said?"
They are currently sitting in a long table with her groom's family. She's still dumbfounded at this sudden event.
"Nina, He's Andrei Taylor, your destined groom. Andrei, Hijo..."
Just like that, a bomb just exploded before her eyes. "No way..." she blurted in surprised.
All eyes are staring at her but she didn't pay attention. She cleared her throat and glanced at them. "Can I excused myself for a moment?" When she saw his mother nodded, she immediately stand to her chair and go to their garden that she saw when they arrived a while ago.
She screams at the top of her lungs once she's alone. "Jesus Christ! You're so good to me! I will kiss the soil if it means kissing your feet! I love you! Mwah mwah mwah!" She's having the time of her life when a voice interrupted her.
"Is that how you express your happiness for this fixed marriage?" asked a baritoned voice from her back.
She placed her hand in her chest out of surprised and faced him. "You scared me!" She said then took a deep breath to calm her nerves. "You know, I'm supposed to be alone here. Did you come here just to witness my holly reaction?"
He crossed his arms and stared at her intently. "Don't you want to know my feelings towards this agreement of marriage?"
She pouted. "I'm afraid to ask."
"I don't like it even one bit." He said straight to her face.
She felt a sting on her heart but forced not to be swayed by it. She blinked away her worries. Does he hate me? There's no turning back now though. She motivated to herself. "Ouch! That hurts. Will you back-out then?"
He sighed. "Nope."
She smiled happily. "Great! Now that you said it, I'm now at peace."
He smirked. "Don't be. I promised, you won't get the best of me in this marriage."
She grimaced. "You don't mean that?"
A grinned flashed on his face. "But I do!"
She gritted her teeth and walked towards his direction. She eyed him. "I assure you, you will eat what you just said."
He chuckled. "Let's see about that." He said then disappeared in her sight.
She's about to go to the dining table when Andrei's mother called her. She's motioning her to come near at the kitchen where she be located. She plastered a smile while approaching towards her direction.
"You called out for me, tita? Do you want some help here?" She politely asked.
"I'm sorry for the sudden called, hija. I just want to talk to you for a bit. Is that okay?"
She nodded. "It's okay, tita. What is it?"
"I will cut the chase, young lady. I want you to know my answered about this sudden events. I want you to back out in this marriage. It's for your own good."
Damn! all she could say to herself after the boldness of Drei's mother. She swallowed hard. "What do you mean, tita?"
"Don't get me wrong, hija. I don't hate you but the moment I saw you entered this house, I knew you don't fit for my son. I mean you had this refined aura that won't work for him. He's a player. I know him and his ideal for a partner. I hoped you understand. I'm saying this for your own sake. He will only hurt you just like the other girls he introduced to us before you. Besides, I knew you didnt like him from the first place. I got a feeling when you excused yourself a moments ago."
All she can do is blinked to clear her mind. First his son and now his mother? What is happening? Is there a hidden camera here or something? For my happiness, I will not only prove my good intention to him but also to his mother? Am I the man here? For the second time, is this the price of being a good daughter? She yelled at her mind. She only came back from her reverie when she spoke again.
"Let's go back to them, hija. They might suspect us if we stayed here more. Let our conversation be secret to them, is that clear?"
She nodded. "Y-yeah."
