"You have got to stop that!" I blurted out, my cheeks red from embarrassment and fury.
He chuckled lowly, "What? Stop an angel from falling?"
Outraged, I climbed out of his hold, storming out of the ballroom towards the Gardenia. I was so mad I felt like I could set the boy on fire, which I could do but shouldn't. Everyone knew how important the Gathering is for contestants to show off their abilities and to win over the population's heart, but Vampire Boy decided to completely humiliate me and make me look bad in front the entire kingdom of Ambrosia! My heels dug deeper and deeper into the grass as my teeth irritatingly gritted against each other.
Sitting on a bench, my hands gripped the edge of the bench, causing it to melt and turn into liquid gold. Gasping in surprise, I removed my hands and inspected them with curiosity and shock.
"Wow, I've really gotten you mad, haven't I?" A masculine voice resonated from my left.
My eyes immediately narrowed as I set eyes on the reason for my annoyance. How did he even get here? Did he follow me?
I stood up, and accusingly pointed a finger. "You. You should know how important this Gathering is! We grew up our whole lives preparing for this! You made me look like a complete fool in front of everyone on live TV!"
Even more infuriatingly, a half smile broke onto his face and a chuckle escaped his lips.
"I think you might want to guess again, Angel Girl..."
With a head tilt, he indicated towards the windows from which ballroom's dimmed lights poured out onto the garden of fresh flowers. My jaw dropped as I immediately took in the image of all the journalists and photographers snapping pictures of us.
"What's going on? What did you do again?" I asked, panicked.
Why would they suddenly pay attention to me and take interest in what I do?
"Sure, you're welcome. I'm Caspian by the way, nice to meet you." He replied sarcastically and rolled his eyes.
"Listen, Blond Locks, let me make this simple for you: people love romance. They eat up tender stories and relish being part of moments of passion that consume two young lovers."
Extremely confused to what he was alluding to, I shook my head. "I don't understand what you are trying to tell me."
"My guess would be that the possibility and the idea of a fairytale-like romance sparking between you and I will be driving Ambrosia in entirety well ... crazy. "
Once again, I felt dazzled by his beautiful features. Caspian gave an irresistibly charming, knowing smile.
"What do you think, Beatrix Syleph, shouldn't we give the people what they want?"
Blushing furiously, I completely understood where he came from and his plan was actually kind of genius: the more Ambrosia loved us, the more likely we were to stay in the Games. A lot could contribute to the length of our competition, but what we could count on the most was the citizens' votes. Besides, I knew better than to get involved with an insanely attractive Vampire boy in such a deadly tournament, I couldn't let him mess with my chances. Though, the plan of winning over Ambrosia's heart overnight didn't sound too bad.
"I'm thinking dance with me."
I stood up and took his hand in mine, leading both of us back to the main place of attraction. One we were facing each other in the middle of the dance floor, I came to notice how wide Caspian's smile had grown.
We started moving according to the basic tricks of our traditional dance, the Gira, which was based on a mix of ancient Spanish and Greek dances, and obviously magic. None were dancing it since most were too busy showcasing their own personal talents. What a better way to stand out from the crowd? We swirled around each other in blazing golden flames and dark rose petals, we spun in the air creating a small vortex of fire specks and red mist. I had to admit, it was fun to dance with Caspian.
After a few more moments of whirling around, with one final twirl, we slowly reached the ground. Caspian spun me around for the last time with a sweet, mischievous smile.
"How was that for the beginning of a fairytale-like romance, Angel Girl?"
