Defending the emperors name

Part 2

After the battle we buried our dead, and we camped out for in the near by city the night. The city was ruined from the first war with the orks. It was abandoned now so we were able to find shelter in an old manufacturium in the south part of the city. I had to take the first watch nothing really happened and my watc ended half way through the night and I was able get some rest. The next morning I woke up and had some breakfast with the other marines.

One of the marines asked

"Sigmus do you have any family back where you come from?"

"No most are dead and the ones that are alive I don't care to talk about" I answered

"You don't even have a girl waiting for you back home?" The marine to my right asked

"No, well I did but she's dead. She died in the early years of the Horus heresy, before I even was recruited to the imperium."

Everyone ate in silence after I answered. After breakfast we all picked up our weapons and put on our helmets. We head out and scouted the southern part of the city. We found a few more ruined buildings and that is mostly what we found. As we headed back to the manufactorium we stopped to look around and heard the clang of metal falling to the ground. We readied our weapons to fire, we sat there for a minute or so and then a few hundred orks ran straight toward us, I drew my chainsword and continued firing with my bolter. I downed five or six orks before they reached our raven guard squad. I kicked one of the orks to the ground and shot him between the eyes I shot one more ork and I hit one more to the ground and trust my blade through his exposed chest. I continued firing downing more and more orks, until there were only forty or fifty orks left and as they ran off we killed enough to bring them down to about ten or fifteen orks. Sadly we still lost two more battle brothers putting us down to 8 men in our squad. After we counted our losses we noticed that the sun was setting so there was no way could get to the manufactorium before the sun went down, so we had to take shelter in a small warehouse near our position. In the warehouse we found ammunition and a few weapons. The weapons consisted of a few krak grenades and two heavy bolters and and one thunder hammer. I took two krak grenades and the thunder hammer which sparked as I picked it up. After we had set up our two heavy bolters up to defend out position through the night. I had found my self a place to sleep and took off my helmet and settled down and tried to sleep.
