Chapter 17: Arrivals

Lilly Pov:

" What happened.....why would she do that?"

I sigh and glance over at Zaira's motionless body. Her eyes were screwed shut, but we could clearly see her eyeballs moving from under her lids.

" She hasn't had the easiest life. Ever."

The boy I found out name was Enoch hasn't moved from the corner in hours, only watched Zaira carefully.

" Why would she do this? How could she do this?"  He asked in a small voice.

Johnny who sat in a chair gave a humorless laugh, " Why is harder than how. Yet the how is harder to do then the why...."

Enoch gazed at Johnny confused. " What?"

I chuckle, " Some find it easy to find a why, and others find it easy to find a how. A reason to die or a way to die. She has a why and a how."

Riddian used to always say that to us...

Enoch looked at Zai deeply in thought, " What reason would she want to die?"

I look at my hands that I sat on my lap and sighed, " I don't think she wanted to die.....I really don't." I say in a sarrow filled voice.

" This hasn't been the first time she's done this, or even the sixth. She has a long history of self harm and depression. Only last time she had Riddian to help her." I finish and glance at Enoch.

His eyes swam with unknown emotions.

" Who is Riddian? I've heard people talk about him all the time, yet I feel like I know nothing." He says timidly as he bounced his legs.

Johnny smiles, " Riddian Mikanie.......he was a good man. A real good man in fact. He was the vary first peculiar Mr. Condor has ever found. He knew he was meant for something great, and he was right. Over 500 years ago he saved Zaira from the dickhead she had to call father." He said before looking at me to continue.

" Zaira was builled by her village. I was the first to see this. A rich kid was beating her senseless in the road, while everyone watched. Nobody stuck up for her...so I walk up to the girl and kicked the shit out of her, then left. The next day I come back to the village and don't see Zaira anywhere. I became worrried for her and informed Mister Condor that she had gone missing. For almost three hours we search for her. It was late at night when I decided to go home. Not even thirty seconds before I stepped through the door, Riddian ran though the door holding a beaten girl. The girl was bloody, and looked to be freezing. Only then I knew who she was. It was Zaira.
Her village wasn't the only abuse she had to endure but her father as well. Everyday he would beat her numb then drink off his ass. Riddian found her dad beating her in there front yard in the snow. Riddian was raised a gentleman and couldn't bare seeing a girl being abused. He froze her father then shattered his remains. Then be picked Zai up and brought her to our old house in Wyoming. We lived there for years, and as the years went on Riddian and Zaira developed feelings for each other. There love was a beautiful thing....it truly was. Riddian would wake up every morning and paint a sleeping picture of Zai, then kiss her nose to wake her up. In the afternoon he would make her favorite lunch and take her for a stroll. Then at night he'd tuck her into his bed and promise her always and forever."

Johnny pinched the bridge of his nose, " They were so madly in love that some would think it was insane. When we had to leave....I could never unsee the look of horor on Zai's face. The terror of thinking we were all dead....Riddian picked up smoking after we left. He became depressed also....he would come to me and ask to see Zai every single day and every single night. We would see her crying herself to sleep......cutting herself...... burning herself.....lying to people aroud her, saying she was okay. It drove Riddian insane to know she was doing this and never being able to help. He would call her his love, and his princess. At night he would have nightmares that she would have killed herself and would cry for hours on end.....soon we couldn't take it anymore. I called Mister Condor and told him what she was doing. Ever since that day two years ago she hasn't ever hurt herself."

He let out a bitter chuckle.

" Riddian was the glue that held our family together tight."

Enoch stared at Zai. " What happened to Riddian?"

I turn away from every one.

" He sacrificed himself to save her. An evil force wants to take and claim Zaira. To keep him away Riddian had to give away himself to freeze the passing portal from our world to his world. Zaira thinks his death is her fault. She feels guilty." I say sickly. How could she feel it was her fault!?

Enoch smiled sadly, " She told me about you guys. About your group. She named, name after name. Telling me there peculiarities and there favorite things to do. She always talked about you guys like you were holding up the world. She never once seemed so...sad."

I nod, " She's good at hiding her feelings. Shes had to be. There are few people she actually trust in this world and you are so lucky to be one."

Johnny nods, " Took her four weeks to say a single word to my buddy Monster."

Enoch raised an eyebrow, " Monster?"

Johnny Boy nodded, " Yep. Monster Ashly is my friends birth name. Says it on his birth certificate. I call him Ash though. He gets insecure about his name at times."

Enoch leans back in his seat, " Are the rest of you guys gonna show up anytime soon?" He asked.

I nod, " I had Ryder call them to inform them on Zaira's sensitive state. Knowing them, once they hear that Zairas hurt they'll be here in four hours max."

Enoch smiles, " Four hours? Where are they?"

I smirk, " Romania."

His eyes widen, " Four hours from Romania to New Orleans?"

Johnny and I nod, " Uh-huh."

Ryder steps though the door way pulling in a dripper or an IV as most call it.
He casually strolls up to Zai and starts hooking her up, which was proven difficult due to her cuts.

He put one in her nose to help neutralize her breathing, Rachel then came in with a heart monitor.

Ryder then hooked her up to that and glanced over at us.

" She's lost alot of blood. She should be fine, but when she wakes up she's going to be out of it. Due to the drugs we put her on. Don't let her take out her drips. If she does, come get me immediately."

Rachel looks at me sadly. " Welcome home Lilly."

With that they both left the room.

Fun day am I right?  My best friend can possibly die, and has suicidal thoughts...
