Magnus
"Come now my blueberry we have to go." I cooed to Max as he refused to leave the lion exhibit for the second time as we had to come back before we left just to get him to walk away last time. I sighed and glanced at Alec who was running his hands down his face, exhausted from the trip. I took advantage of the opportunity to tease him."I've never known a Shadowhunter to be tired at only three in the afternoon." I smirked as Alec walked over to me, frowning slightly.
"Most Shadowhunters don't take their 2-year-old children to a mundane zoo either." He retorted with that spark in his eyes that meant a little more than Max could handle.
"Most Shadowhunters don't come out as gay and then date a warlock and adopt another warlock to raise together." I replied slyly as Alec lifted Max into his arms, the poor kid had become so exhausted that he couldn't fight Alec and almost immediately fell asleep in his arms.
"Most Shadowhunters are missing out then." He smiled as I took his free hand in mine and gently kissed him before leaving the zoo.
Alec
"The Inquisitor called and wanted us to come over for dinner." I smirked as I entered our bedroom to find Magnus reading in bed.
"Was he inviting us as the Inquisitor or as a father who wants to see his two-year-old grandson without actually saying it." Magnus asked as he put down the book and I crawled into bed next to him, leaning my head on his chest as I tried to stay awake. Max was in his room taking a nap and that sounded like a really good idea right about now.
"Considering he specifically told me it was Clave business I'm going to go out on a limb here and say no. However, when mom talked to me she stated that if Max wasn't brought she would disown us. So I think we have a babysitter for our Clave related dinner this evening. " I replied, trying to keep my eyes open and stifling a yawn.
"How considerate that she would take him for us." Magnus smiled as I gave in and closed my eyes, drifting into a deep and relaxing sleep.
2 hours later
"DADDYS!" Max screamed from his room as I shot up from the bed. The Dark War made what few Shadowhunters there were very alert, constantly. I relaxed when I realized who was screaming for me and looked over my shoulder at Magnus, cat eyes steadily on me as I leaned over his to slowly kiss him, full of words that cannot be spoken and deeper than Edom. He didn't break away until Max screamed again and I sighed, clearly exasperated when he did.
"We just had a whole weekend to ourselves while Jace and Clary almost killed him. I believe you need some patience." Magnus stated as he got up and started walking towards the door.
"Simon and Izzy want to see him too." I joked as I slowly moved out of the bed, wishing I could stay there with Magnus just a long enough to run my hands through his hair and get covered in glitter. But having a kid, even if he was a warlock that could control the world in a few years, was a 24/7 job.
I went into the living room and settled down at my desk with some work for the Clave on Downworlder Acceptance in Unsafe Areas of the World and started to write. Magnus and Max came in a few moments later and started to play. Magnus sat at his desk across from mine and we began to talk about the work in front of us and how to get both Downworlders and Shadowhunters to feel at least somewhat safe around each other. Max was on the floor playing with his firetruck and trying to make sparks fly from his fingertips the same way his father did. I smiled to myself as he asked Magnus to show him how to "make the blue squiggles" and Magnus explained how he did it and also how Max was probably going to have to practice a lot if he wanted to do it. By the time mom had come over to the house Magnus and I had most of the Law we would be proposing at the next Council meeting written and Max had happily moved on from trying to do magic and had instead started to have his trains race around the room while watching a mundane TV show Magnus had projected onto the wall called Thomas the Tank Engine. Max was mesmerized by the colorful talking trains and was a little upset when it suddenly shut off due to the doorbell ringing. Luckily his tears quickly diminished when Gramie walked in and immediately gave him all the attention in the world before even noticing Magnus and I were there.
