Chapter 18.

------------------

Tessa's POV:

The heads of the fallen dead had imploded, splattering black ooze and puss onto the ground as they fell. Delilah's screams stopped as the last zombie fell, her eyes opening, gleaming with... pride? She giggled at me, then reached a small hand up to touch my nose. She cooed, as though to tell me everything was okay. I glanced up, noticing all eyes on the child and I. Edward appeared from the doorway of the Generator room, his eyes wide. "Vas zhat... Zhe child...?" He murmured loudly, disbelief tainting his tongue. Holly came to our side, politely pulling Delilah from my grasp. The infant squealed in delight, grasping her tiny hands into her mother's shirt. Edward walked towards the pair, and reached his hand out to the child. Delilah turned her head to face him, and a strange blue glow illuminated her eyes. "Ze MPD.." He whispered loudly, unable to take his eyes from the child. Holly's eyes shot to him, and a deep growl sounded from the sideline, "What about the MPD?!" Tank glowered, glaring at Edward. The doctor held both arms out to hold Delilah, looking at Holly. "May I?" She nodded, passing her child to Edward's hands. Delilah cooed, her eyes wide as she stared at the doctor. He returned the state with equally wide eyes, examine the infant's every movement. Suddenly, he handed her back to Holly, turned in his heel, and quickly left the room.
----------
For three days, Edward locked himself in his lab, only leaving to gather random supplies. He wouldn't talk to me, wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. I occupied my time with Holly and Delilah, Kelsie wrapping herself up in Nikolai constantly. Tank and Takeo wandered the facility, clearing rotten corpses and searching for ammunition. The attacks seemed to die down, while my nerves never did. The incident with Delilah worried everyone, and Edward's cold shoulder wasn't helping me. Finally, late one night, Edward came onto the stage, and cleared his throat loudly. "I have come up both a solution to zhe issue zhat zhe child has. Frauliens, come vith me, und bring zhe infant." He lead us through the door, and towards his lab. Once inside the room, it was obvious he had done some major changes to his work space. The Teleporter pad now stretch the length of half the room, controls tacked to a post on the outer edge. A shrill gasp sounded from my right, then Kelsie and Holly stumbled onto the pad in front of me, Delilah in tote. "What the frick, Richtofen?!" Kelsie growled, raising to her feet. I turned towards him, and was met by chapped lips tightly pressing to mine. I moaned slightly, feeling his fingers dig into my bare arms. Then, he pulled back, whispering, "Goodbye, mien liebe. Isch liebe diche..." And with a shaken breath, he pushed me back onto the Teleporter pad. My mind raced as he reached for the power lever. I scrambled to my feet, lunging for his hand, "Edward, no, plea-" Was all I could get out, before a blinding light enveloped our bodies. We were pulled from that time, that world, that dream that none of us wanted to wake from.
