"h-how have you been?" she asked, tucking a stray piece of hair out of her eyes.

wyatt avoided eye contact. "did you know that he was abusive?" he asked.

she nodded slowly. "why did you leave me with him?"

she took a second to gather a response. "i thought that maybe because you were a baby, and his child, that he wouldn't hurt you. i guess i was wrong," she muttered the last part.

"yeah. you were. why didn't you take me with you?"

she sniffled. "i don't know, wyatt. i couldn't take care of you. i didn't know how. i was just a kid, for god's sake."

wyatt nodded. "i mean, we were just kids but we got each other out, so don't use that as an excuse," he spat.

"who's we?" she asked, wiping her tears away. "my frien-" wyatt stopped and corrected himself.
