Jonah
I stood awkwardly in the doorway watching Jack talk with Sydnie and Ava. Isla had since long gone (well been forced by Sydnie) to bed. Jack hadn't stopped talking to the girls since they were alone again. It seemed like a private moment and it felt like I was intruding. I was about to go wait outside when Jack called me over.
"Jonah," Jack was so much more relaxed here with his true family. It was a whole different side of him, "I think I'm gonna move back with my family."
My stomach dropped. I had only just met Jack and now he was leaving me too? "That's ok." I managed to stutter.
"All of your stuff are in boxes upstairs if you want to set up your old room again." Sydie told Jack. With a look of almost childlike excitement, Jack scampered up the stairs.
Once he was gone, Sydnie surprised me by pulling me into a hug. Ava soon joined in.
"Thank you," Sydnie squeezed me, "Thank you for helping my baby brother."
I blushed, "It was nothing."
She let go and smiled, "It means everything to us."
"Hey," Jack walked back into the room, "Jonah can we talk outside?"
I nodded and followed Jack out in front of their house. The moonlight cast on his face and I noticed all the freckles scattered on his nose. "What did you wanna talk about?" I put my hands in my pockets.
"What did you mean earlier when you told me you wanted me to meet 'the boys'?"
I laughed, "My friends Daniel, Corbyn, and Zach. They're cool."
Jack nodded tentatively, "Um maybe tomorrow?" He asked. I detected concern in his voice and a little bit of fear.
"Sure, I'll pick you up." Jack forced a grin and started to walk back to the house. I waved goodbye and drove back home.
I was happy that Jack found his family again, but another part of me was jealous. Jealous of the homeless boy, I scoffed to myself, What's gotten into you Jonah?

"Bye Sydnie!" I called to my sister, "I'll be back soon!" I felt bad leaving my sisters again after only just reuniting with them, but I promised I'd go meet Jonah's friends.
To be completely honest, I was terrified. I didn't like being around new people. But I trusted Jonah. That was the only thing keeping me from bolting back inside.
Jonah waved to me as I approached the car. I got in and he began to drive.
"We're going to Corbyn's house, is that ok?" He asked.
"Sure." I lied. New people. New place. My hands started to shake. I pressed my fingernails into my skin trying to stop the nerves running through me. Jonah was talking but I wasn't focused on him. My mind slipped into another memory.

My mom was so proud of me for making new friends on this first day of 8th grade that she didn't hesitate to invite them over. I nervously paced by the door, waiting for them to arrive.
"Are you sure this was a good idea?" I asked my mom.
She opened her mouth to answer but shut it when the doorbell rang. I slowly opened it to see a boy and a girl standing on my porch.
"You must be Tate and Eben." My mom greeted them.
Tate smiled politely, "It's nice to meet you."
They walked into the house and I brought them up to my room. I had made sure to hide all my music stuff. There was no need for them to know about that.
I waited, holding my breath to see what they thought. All Eben said was, "Cool room dude." I relaxed a bit.
We began to talk and I felt more comfortable. Tate and Eben were the only people who talked to me at school. To everyone else I was just the quiet kid.
"Hey Jack," Tate said when there was a brief pause in the conversation, "Can I see some of your clothes? You have the best style of any guy in our grade." Without waiting for an answer, Tate walked over to my closet and opened the door.
My guitar and mic set, which had been lying against the closet door, fell to the ground. Tate jumped back. I ran over and began to hastily shove them back in the closet, but not before Eben saw.
"What are you like a singer or something?" Eben stopped me from putting my guitar back.
I didn't know what to say, "Kinda?" It came out like a question.
"Wow," For a second I thought I had Eben's approval. Then he smirked, "That's so gay."
"Eben!" Tate smacked him, "Don't be rude!"
"Ow!" Eben rubbed his shoulder where Tate hit him, "Jesus Tate! I'm just saying! Jack dresses like a f** and he probably sits up in his room singing love songs to all his boyfriends."
Tate scowled, "Stop it. That's a horrible thing to say. Jack's not gay, right Jack?" She turned to me.
I stood with my guitar in one hand, gripping it tight. No one had ever called me that before. I felt nauseous. "Get out." I whispered.
"What?"
"I said," I glared at Eben, "Get out of my house. Both of you." Tate looked at me, confused. I didn't change my gaze. I just needed them both gone. I needed to be alone.
The two of them walked out of the room in silence. I heard the front door slam shut. My mom came into my room.
"Your friends are leaving so soon?"
I shoved my guitar back in the closet and shut the door, "Yeah, they were busy this afternoon."
"Oh that's to bad." My mom frowned, "Tate's kinda pretty though Jacky." She winked at me.
"Yeah. Sure. Whatever."

By the time we had reached the house, I was having a full on anxiety attack. I couldn't stop shaking. Did I have a fever? I felt too hot and the car was closing in on me making it hard to breathe,
Jonah finally noticed, "Hey Jack, are you ok?"
I gasped for air, "I'm scared."
Jonah grabbed my hand and wrapped it in his. His hands were soft and comforting. "They are really nice guys." He promised, "But if you want to leave, we can."
I tried to steady my breathing, "No. I'll do it."
Jonah nodded thoughtfully, "Anytime you think you need to leave, just tell me."
We got out of the car and began the walk to the front door.
