“Up,” Adam said, pulling the covers off of me and hitting the side of my head lightly.

“Get lost,” I whined, pulling my pillow on to my head.

“Fine, but Mum's leaving in ten minutes and you'll have to walk to school,” he said, flouncing out of my room.

That's when it hit me; it was the last day of high school- the day I had been dreaming of all my life. A smile creeped along my lips and I leaped out of bed, stretching my arms as I made my way over to my wardrobe. I slipped into my school uniform for the last time and walked into the kitchen.

“Hey mum,” I said cheerfully, scanning the inside of the fridge for food.

“You're in a good mood,” she responded.

“Well it's the last day of high school and I'm moving back to England in three days,” I stated as I grabbed random items of food and flung them into my school bag.

“Yes,” she said, clearly uninterested, “now, are you ready for school?”

“Yeah,” I said, making sure I hadn't forgotten anything, “why's Adam up so early?”

“He's starting a new job at the corner shop today. Can you get the car keys please?”

“Oh ok,” I said, picking up the keys and handing them to mum, “let's go.”

SEVEN HOURS LATER

“It's quite sad really...” Amy said with tears in her eyes as we went to empty our lockers.

“Yeah,” Charlotte & Louise agreed. Amy was right- it was the end of an era- but I was excited, there were no tears in my eyes and I seriously couldn't wait to start packing for my upcoming move.

“What do you think, Soph?” Amy asked.

“I can't wait to see the back of this place, the only thing I'll miss is Mexican Mondays,” I laughed truthfully as the others rolled their eyes. “So what are your plans for the rest of the year?” I asked in a pathetic attempt to change the topic.

“I'm going to see Aaron for a month,” Louise smiled. Aaron was her older brother who lived with his girlfriend in LA. He moved out six weeks ago and she was so excited for her first visit.

“I'll probably spend the whole summer with Amy, since the rest of you are ditching us...” Charlotte said, wiping away a fake tear.

“We're going to miss you, you know,” Amy smiled, nudging my shoulder. The girls all pulled me into a tight hug; they were the only things I'd miss about this place. Everything reminded me of Connor. That's when I saw him.

“Oh no,” I muttered a bit too loudly. The girls followed my gaze an tried to steer me away from him but it was too late; he 'd already seen me.

“Sophie!” he yelled, quickening his pace as though he had been looking for me.

“Go away,” I said weakly, letting my eyes flutter to the ground. I hadn't spoken to him since he cheated on me and I wasn't ready to...

“We need to talk,” he said as he placed a firm hand my shoulder. I looked deep into his green eyes and, as though I had been hypnotised, I agreed to talk.

“Fine.”

“Are you sure?” Charlotte asked me, “you don't have to...”

“I'll be fine,” I smiled as my friends went back to emptying their lockers.

“Can we go somewhere?” Connor asked.

I shook my head. “No, if we talk, we talk here.”

“Ok,” he smiled as he just stared into my eyes.

“What?” I said, getting irritated. He took my hand and leant in to kiss me. Before he could, I shoved him off me and ran away. Yes, after breaking my heart and cheating on me, he tried to kiss me in a pathetic attempt to win me back. And the worst part was, I wanted to kiss him. I tried to bury the feeling but my eyes flooded with tears. I had spent the last three weeks trying to forget about him and I was doing a pretty good job but now, now there was some part of me wanted him back. I just had to remember- he didn't deserve me.

“What happened?” Louise asked as I caught up to the girls.

“Nothing,” I responded, struggling to hold back the tears.

A FEW HOURS LATER

“She's the man!” I yelled over the top of the other girls as we tried to decide on a movie. Charlotte & Louise wanted a horror movie but Amy & I weren't thrill seekers and wanted a chick flick.

“NO!” Charlotte protested, “we watched that last time!”

“But it's the best!” I pleaded.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Fine,” I relented. Man, I needed to work on my persistence. “What will we watch then?”

“Paranormal Activity,” the horror maniacs suggested.

“I guess so...” Amy said, trying to stop herself trembling with fear. I grunted as I lay back on Louise's tie-dye pillows.

“Hey, aren't these mine?” I said, inspecting them.

“Yeah,” she giggled, “but they were in your cupboard and you never use-”

“Can we just put the movie on?!” Charlotte interrupted, clearly getting impatient.

“If we must...” I said, rather unenthusiastically.

THREE DAYS LATER

“This is it!” Charlotte said.

“The end of an era,” Amy added.

“We're gonna miss you...” Louise whined. By now, all four of us had tears in our eyes. We'd been best friends since I moved to the states when I was eleven but now I was leaving them and I didn't know when I'd see them again. They were the best.

“Don't make me cry!” I said as I pulled them all in for a group hug. A couple of seconds later I pulled back and wiped away my first tear. “I'll see you guys soon, ok?”

“Of course,” Charlotte said while the others nodded in response. We were all crying by now.

Suddenly I heard mum's voice above all of our goodbye's. “Come on Sophie, you'll miss your flight,” she said, tapping her watch dramatically.

“Bye,” I said, hopping into the car.

“Bye!” they screamed all together, blowing kisses at me and chasing the car as we drove out of the street. Eventually, we rounded a corner and they disappeared out of sight.

“Cheer up,” mum said, her eyes focused on the road, “you get to see your cousins soon.” That's right, in less than 24 hours I would be at London Heathrow Airport waiting for my auntie and my cousins; Harry & Gemma. That did cheer me up a little bit; I hadn't seen them in a couple of years and so much had changed. Harry, the curly-haired hyperactive eleven year old I remember, was now a member of the world wide phenomenon- One Direction. I wasn't the biggest fan of their music but I still couldn't wait to meet the boys. And then there was Gemma, she's a little bit older than me but we'd always been really close and I just hoped we could pick up where we left off.

“I can't wait,” I said, wiping tears away.

"We'll miss you,” mum said.

“Oh god mum, don't get me started again!” I laughed.

“I mean it Sophie, things won't be the same without you.”
