I walked through the front door and collapsed onto the sofa. Today had been absolutely awful and I just wanted to fall asleep and forget about everything. “Hey Sophie,” Samuel, my little brother, said as he peered around his bedroom door.
“Hey,” I said as I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
We're coming over, the text from Louise read. “Great,” I mumbled sarcastically, “just what I need?”
“What?” Sam asked, looking confused.
“Oh nothing, just the girls,” I explained.
“Ok,” he said in his cute little voice as he walked back to his bedroom. He was only twelve years old but we could be extremely mature when he wanted to be. At that moment, my older brother, Adam, walked through the door, singing loudly to his crappy music.
“Do you mind?” I asked, curling up into ball on the sofa.
He rolled his eyes at me, “what's got you in such a pissy mood? That time of the month? Or is it just guy troubles?” he snarled at me. He was such a jerk- his last comment about guys made the colour drain from my face.
“Just shut up,” I retorted weakly, standing up and storming to my bedroom. Adam's nineteen years old- only one year older than me- yet he thinks himself so superior. Graduation was in just under a month and I honestly couldn't wait. My plan was to go to Cheshire in England and stay with my auntie and cousins while I went to university. I lived there until I moved out to the states when I was eleven and I was thrilled to be going back.
Trying to distract myself from my breakup, I put What Makes You Beautiful on full volume and started dancing crazily to it, singing along really badly. Suddenly three girls appeared in my doorway, their jaws dropped in shock at the sight of my awful singing and dancing.
“Hello my most loyal best friends,” I said cheerily as I jumped down from my bed.
“You ok?” Louise asked, admiring herself in my mirror and running her fingers through her long blonde hair.
I raised my eyebrows, “yeah..”
“We thought you'd be a bit more.. upset..” Amy stuttered.
“No point crying over him, he was a jerk,” I lied, trying to convince myself he wasn't worth it, “so why are you here?”
“Just thought you could use some cheering up,” Louise said, moving her focus from the mirror to my wardrobe. She signalled for Charlotte to join her and they both started rummaging through my clothes while Amy and I collapsed onto my bed.
“Get up!” Louise barked at us, throwing a scarlet red dress onto my legs.
“This isn't even my dress..” I began before I realised what they had in mind, “we're not going into town.”
“Oh yes we are,” they said, beginning to apply make up and get changed.
“Why?!” I whined, staring at the dress I'd been given.
“To cheer you up,” Amy smiled.
“Do I look like I need cheering up? I'm perfectly fine!” I protested.
“No you're not,” they all said in unison.
“There's no way you're taking me out tonight.”
AN HOUR LATER
“To freedom!” the girls toasted as we downed our first round of shots. I rolled my eyes; they had pretty much dragged me here and I knew that, as always, in a few drinks time they'd be dunk and just ditch me for a random guy. At least they promised not to try and hook me up with someone this time...
“Another one?” Amy asked.
“Yep.”
“Yes.”
“I guess so,” I said with significantly less enthusiasm than the others.
“I need your help Soph,” Amy said.
“Fine.” I slid off my stool ambled to the bar. I watched on as Amy ordered more shots and flirted with the bartender. “See any cute guys?” I teased her.
“No,” she said, despite the fact that her eyes were fixed on the bartender.
“Liar,” I coughed, causing her to turn and face me.
“What?” she said, dazedly as I shook my head. “What about you?”
“Yeah,” I said, trying to keep a straight face as I pointed to middle aged man who was clearly wasted as he stroked his grey beard.
Amy followed my finger and looked at the man briefly before turning back to me with wide eyes, “seriously?” Gosh, she could be such a bimbo!
“Of course not Amy!” I laughed, collecting our drinks from the barman and walking back towards the balcony, “you can be so gullible sometimes!”
“Well you do have a weird taste-” she began before someone pushed her into the door, causing her to pour the drinks all over her beautiful lilac dress. “Ouch!” she wailed from the ground.
“I'm so sorry!” a male voice said as he offered her his hand. Of course, the culprit was none other than the bartender she was flirting with before. He pulled her up and she flashed him her flawless smile.
“Thanks,” she said, gazing into his eyes. Realising she was going to go off with him, I rolled my eyes and turned to leave.
“Goodbye,” I aid as I went the join Louise & Charlotte.
“Take your time...” Louise whined as I handed her a drink.
“I swear Amy can pick up any guy she wants to!” I said in a sarcastic way as I peered back into the bar where she and the bartender were kissing in a corner of the room. And I mean really kissing. I felt a pang of jealousy hit me right in the heart and my eyes began to well up. “I'm going to go home,” I informed my friends and, to my surprise, they hardly protested and even agreed to leave with me. As we were escaping the bar, Louise caught sight of her long time crush and went over to him so only Charlotte & I made it back to my place.
I went to the get changed for bed and by the time I had returned to my bedroom, Charlotte was already asleep. I rolled my eyes and hopped into bed, trying to think of anything but Connor and what he did to me.
