After sitting in my room for two days straight, I begin to realize something. Whether I like it or not, I'm stuck here. I have to accept this, and deal with the situation like an adult. I decide that I'll explore the castle I'm trapped in.
After walking around for about ten minutes, I'd managed to find a few different rooms. I found the pantry, the kitchen, the library, and a few other empty bedrooms.
Onward with the adventure!
I open the door to another empty bedroom, then walk down the hall and open another door. The room is a cool blue, and I see Hades sitting at a desk, a woman sitting across from him.
"Sorry I-"
He cuts me off, "come here, you can help."
"Help what exactly? Wait, why isn't she moving?" I question.
"I paused her so we can talk."
"Paused her? Like a movie?"
"Eh, kind of. Anyways, welcome to my office. This is where I determine where souls go. She just got here so you can hear her full story. Have a seat." He instructs.
A chair appears next to him and I sit, not questioning it.
He unfreezes the brown haired woman, and she looks confused.
"I'm Hades. You're going to tell me your name, and your story."
She nods, almost robotic-like, and begins.
"My name is Jessica Williams, I'm thirty nine years old. My mom died having me, so it was just me and my dad. When I was five, he adopted my little sister Liz. We grew up pretty wealthy. My dad went to jail for gambling when I was twenty four, so I had to watch over my sister. When I was twenty, I got hired into my office building, I'm a lawyer. I got married six years ago to my husband, Tom, and everything has been good since." She finishes.
"What's truthfully the worst thing you've ever done?" Hades asks, clicking his pen.
"I defended a murder who plead not guilty, and he killed two other girls after." She states, blankly.
Hades writes that down, and she disappears.
"Where did she go?" I ask.
"Asphodel Meadows."
"What?"
"She went to the Asphodel Meadows, where she'll spend the rest of eternity." He stands up and stretches.
"Where else could she have gone? To hell?" I wonder.
"Souls can be sent to the Fields of Punishment, the Asphodel Meadows, or Elysium. And if I think they deserve it, they can be sent back to earth for reincarnation." He explains.
"I suddenly have a lot of sympathy for you," I admit, "this is a really hard job."
He rolls his eyes, "don't feel bad for me."
"I can't help it. I mean, Zeus and Poseidon have easy shit, you determine where people spend forever."
"You should stop before my head gets any bigger." He chuckles.
"Can I hug you?" I ask out of no where, "you seem like you need it, and honestly, so do I."
I stand up and wrap my arms around him. After a moment, he does the same. We stay like that comfortably for at least a minute.
I gasp, pulling away quickly.
"What is it? What's wrong?" He asks.
"I-I don't know. I just got really overwhelmed, it knocked the breath out of me."
He looks at me, confused.
I take a deep breath, "don't call me crazy when I say this... I feel almost like I just got all of your thoughts and feelings at once."
"You're crazy." I say at the same time he does.
"I knew you were going to say that." I state.
"No you didn't. That's impossible." We say simultaneously.
"Told you." I groan, "great. Now we're like connected or something."
"In going to try to block you out, okay? Tell me if you still know what I'm going to say."
"Okay, I just thought some really graphic stuff and your face isn't twisted in disgust so I'm going to assume it worked." He states.
I nod, not hearing his next words anymore.
"Do you think I'm going to want to murder people and stuff now, like you do?" I worry.
"You're so pure not even I count taint you," he laughs, "you'll be fine."
I let out a sigh of relief.
"But I am suddenly getting the urge to have sex with me, so maybe I got your thoughts." He smirks.
I scoff, "as if."
"It was worth a shot."
"What do we do now?" I ask.
"Keep soul sorting, I guess." He says, sitting back down.
