I wish I could say my Christmas was great, but unfortunately, I cannot. So, I slept in for once, I had off of work because of the holiday. Although, my body still woke me up early. I made myself breakfast and a cup of tea. I slowly ate, then picked at the rest of my food after I was full, letting the fork scrape along the plate creating an eerie sound, like the high pitches in mysterious music. Once I felt like it, I stood up and placed my plate in the sink, not bothering to clean it, then I sat down on my couch with the cup of steaming tea in hand. I watched the steam create vanishing spirals hovering above the cup and blew on it to cool it down before taking a sip. I let the flavour of the tea dance on my taste buds before swallowing, that lasted no longer than a few seconds, things like that normal people wouldn't notice, but detectives notice a lot.
It was around 5:30 in the evening when I heard a knock on the front door of my house. I was surprised in all honesty. I recall thinking "Who could that possibly be?" Using my detective skills, I limited down my options, but I ran out of time to figure it out before I approached the door. I opened it to see William, he was shivering, I glanced down at his boots, they were soaking wet and covered in snow, his nose and ears were red and his lips were a bluish-grey colour, I then looked into his forest green eyes, there were frozen teardrops stuck to his eyelashes. He must've walked here. "What are you doing here? Come in!" I exclaimed then noticed something in his hand, but didn't mention it. William walked in and automatically stopped shivering. "How do you know where I live?" I asked, since I'm aware that I never told him. "I'm a detective too you know," William replied and took off his soaked boots so he wouldn't get the floors wet. "Why are you here?" I asked, then sat down on the couch. William took the spot next to me and smiled handing me a present. "It's Christmas, nobody should be alone on Christmas," William replied. "How did you know I was going to be alone?" I questioned him once again. It was quite obvious that he was getting frustrated with all the questions. "I'm a detective too! I'm not as idiotic as you might think, sir," he replied, "Please refrain from the formalities, my name will do fine, calling me sir just makes me feel old." William looked down at his hands and nodded in response. I sighed and looked at the present he handed me a couple of minutes ago. "I haven't gotten you anything," I told him, not wanting to accept the gift. William chuckled, "Just accept it, I came all this way to give it to you." I looked at it before realizing what it was, a necktie, I didn't have many and he probably noticed throughout the week I've known him. I managed a smile, "Thank you."
We chatted for a while longer, by the time it was 7:00 in the evening I told him that I was going to go into work to see if anything interesting has happened. Holidays were usually the busiest. "I'll go with," he said, determined. So, we went to the station and that was the first day when we started working on The Night Phantom case
