When Maya pulled into the small town the first thing she noted to herself was that the way a small Texan Town didn't look so different from her imagination and the tons of Hollywood movies. She pulled into the petrol station and the first thing she noticed was that there were no petrol attendants, "This is strange" she thought to herself laughing as she tried to manhandle the guzzle into her car. When she pulled the trigger the smell of petrol hit her square in the face, looking around at the sleepy town in the afternoon, Maya allowed herself to relish in the fact that she was actually here, she
was in America, studying her dream course. She smiled up at the sky taking a moment to appreciate the Texas sun that had not so long ago insulted her, this reminded her of her stranger, Connor, she wondered where he lived and what he did, she remember distinctly his warm smile and his rough hands. She was in awe to find herself actually here and knew straight away that when she got to her hotel she would need to phone her parents ASAP. Once she'd finished filling up the car, she jumped back in connected her phone and lost herself in the sound of her music. Maya pondered over the thoughts of the future, that anxious feeling was slowly creeping back up on her twisting and turning within her tummy reminding herself that it was not just a short drive back to South Africa and the risk that she'd taken coming here. Nevertheless she carried on driving losing herself to the music and the scenery."Take the exit left" the Garmins voice popped out of nowhere and broke Maya's daydream, "ok, ok exit left" she mumbled to herself, she carried on until she reached "The Mulberry Oak Inn". The old double story house looked as if it was taken straight out of the 19th century, its white frills and huge porch exuded "old ranch house" she pulled in to the parking lot hearing the gravel crunch beneath the weight of the car. She wrestled her bags out of the car and began a slow trudge towards the humongous wooden doors, "afternoon, hi, this is Maya Fourie booking in" Maya said to the receptionist at the front desk. Her hair was pulled up into a tight bun, with thick black glasses that engulfed her face. Once the receptionist had given her the keys to room 17B, Maya once again trudged slowly across the passage way keeping an eye out for her room. The room was basic but nice, a double bed, tv and most amazingly a view overlooking the small town. Once setting aside her bags, Maya jumped in the shower to wash away the stink of the airport and the day that went haywire and put on pajamas "I deserve a little binge sesh" she mumbled to herself whilst fumbling with the room service menu. "Ja ma, ek belowe alles is reg!" (Yes mom I promise everything is alright!) Maya tried to reassure her mom on the phone call, it's quite difficult comforting someone who's across the world, "Okai ma ja, ek's lief vir my ook, goeienag" (ok mom I love you too, goodnight) she said as she ended the conversation. The sigh that came out of her was unexpected and she flopped onto her back on the bed rubbing her eyes. Later that night whilst she was fighting to keep her eyes open to the sounds of Greys Anatomy, a pair of bushveld green eyes haunted her dreams. Connor it seemed had a lasting impact.
