A Part of Something

I follow the group to the crash. The cold, metal armor scapes my skin while I hold a gun that I don't know how to fire. I don't talk to anyone, just keep walking. One of the armored vehicles gets hit and creates a huge explosion. It doesn't blow up, but pulls back. Smaller triangular ships fly through the air. Men start falling in front of me, but the ones still up start firing.

I'm scared, frozen, before a soldier grabs me to end my trance. "You need to fire up." Another explosion. I gape at a triangular ship flying around, shooting white projectiles at us. I scan for the crash of the small Warship and see hundreds of infantry aliens advancing towards us. Someone yells, "Retreat!" and sprints back towards the vehicles. I run too as the dark sky becomes grey.

I rush to one of the vehicles and hop in the back. The vehicle doesn't move as the ships fire around us. "Anyone driving this thing?" a voice yells behind me. A soldier hops into the driver's seat. The vehicle digs through the ground. Our retreat just brought us closer to the enemy. The vehicles stop. Huh?

One of the vehicles opens up and troops jump out of it. They're like the ones I'm with, but have bulkier armor and a dome helmet. Four soldiers bring turrets out of the same vehicle and a large, slightly curved metal box is carried out by two soldiers. They put it on the ground and push down on it while giant white spikes hit the ground around them. The box opens up to reveal a wall.

The tank we have starts firing into the air. The vehicles start shooting. The large men open fire... Why am I not? I jump out from the back and hold the gun close to my face. I stumble forward as my wounds give me discomfort.

I limp to the wall and open fire on the lines of aliens that are climbing up the hill we are stationed on. We're mowing them down. None of us are under heavy fire and the air seems quieter. A slight rumbling ensues while the aliens begin surrounding one area, trying to lift a part of the Warship. They're probably not just helping one soldier out of the rubble. More than likely, there's a weapon to destroy us all under it. I focus my attention on them and I fire, but miss every one of them.

Finally, they lift the rubble and a few alien soldiers walk out from under it. I guess I don't have anything to worry about it. They continue to lift the rubble more as the soldiers try to help. It's flung into the air and lands on a group of aliens advancing towards us. A massive, levitating tank emerges. The bottom of this triangular monstrosity starts to spin as it advances towards us, shooting giant white projectiles at our location. I duck under the wall, which the bullets easily pierce through.

Many of our soldiers improvise cover and some rush back to the vehicles. I like that idea. I make a mad sprint towards the tank. Most of the soldiers are already dead, strewn across the ground with those projectiles sticking out of them. The flying triangular hell tank moves to orbit around us, shooting at the vehicles. I frantically zigzag my running, trying to dodge everything I can. This is how I'm gonna go.

Our tank explodes. Our other vehicle explodes. The only surviving men pile into a partially destroyed armored vehicle and pull back. I hold onto the side as the alien advancement we were once beating is now at our hill. They're so close now, I can see what they look like. Their body is very human like, but they are tall, and have an odd hunch. Everything about them is triangles. Heck, at least half of their armor is covered in them. I'm not a big fan of geometry, so I don't want to die to Pythagoras's name.

The triangular hell tank gains speed on us as some soldiers try catching up to us and get shot down. I look to the front of us and see a glimmer of hope. Reinforcements. With no triangles.

A group of human aircrafts zoom in gloriously and quickly take the flying triangular hell tank back to hell. They precede to shoot down the remaining enemies advancing towards us. A few tanks ride by with what looks like a couple hundred soldiers. I hold onto the vehicle as it continues forward not turning back, I know where I am going. I am going to the place I know I can leave, the base of Warriors.

The base is deep a white forest. It's skillfully camouflaged from the outside. It's just painted white. I close my eyes breathe a sigh of relief. Until we discover that the door is jammed. One brave soul tries to open it by ramming herself at it. After her attempt, I grip the doorknob and pull while the soldiers pull on me. Nothing is working.

Then I remembered: I have a strobe. I draw it and turn the setting to laser, warning everyone to stand back. Drops of sweat grow on my forehead as I slice into the door. It flings open at me, pushing me back. Everybody celebrates as I slowly stand up.

The women walks towards me, grasping her shoulder. A white projectile sticks out of the other shoulder near her neck. Blood is coats the area around her. She tries to focus on me as she yells, "Heck yeah!" Right before she faints. I don't realize she's falling until she hits the ground. Everyone else is still celebrating.

I attempt to pick her up, but I haven't worked out since my time in the Human Military, so I end up having to half carry half drag her to the main building. All the while I cry out for help, which soon arrives. After she is carried off, I remember I'm hurt too. I yell for help again.
