Chapter Five

The sun filled the day with warmth as the first day of college approached their lives. Bart had just finished packing the Cadillac with everything he would need for his first semester and Joann's tears seem to say, " I love you." He was ready to leave the last two years behind him in the dust of indecision. He had finally come to terms with most of the events that had transpired or at least in his head according to his way of this thinking. He knew Joann would find a new boy toy very soon and he would finally be off of her hook so he could pursue the markings of a normal life. She gives him a hug and a very generous kiss similar to that of a red-hot lover. She slides her hand deep into his pocket for one last touch of the tool she had come to love like the comfortable pair of her crotchless panties and at the same time, she drops the role of the fifties in his pocket as a reminder of who it was that buttered his bread. He smiles and says to Aunt Joann " I will never forget you, but I have a long trip ahead of me to the University in Texas. He climbs into the car and heads south toward his future. His car follows the road to the main highway as he glances in the rearview mirror and sees her standing there looking ever so lonely like she had just lost her last friend and maybe she did with the kind of lifestyle she had chosen so long ago. I look and think how sad to be so beautiful but so lonely. I suppose I will never know how she ended up at this place in her life but something tells me it had something to do with the all mighty dollar and her narcissistic personality. In six hours he arrives at the halfway point so he decides to call it an evening. There it was just off the main highway a Howard Johnsons out in the middle of nowhere. " I thought all of those restaurants had gone under with the hula hoop. I pull in and for the first time in my life, I feel like I am really on my own which is a nice feeling to have because of the last two years, but at the same time, it gives me a great deal of anxiety not knowing how my future will unfold. I sit down at the table and the waitress rushes over to my table in extreme haste. She was so cute I really couldn't wait to talk to her. She jiggled as she ran which excited me in more ways than I had anticipated. Her beautiful red hair seems to resemble silk as it fell across her shoulders and those baby blue eyes " oh' my, my, my. " she as they say, " had a smile as big as Texas." She stands in front of me looking like a vision of loveliness sent to me by God himself. She says in a cute little twang in her voice, " Hiya, I am Jimmy Sue and I will be your waitress. Doesn't that sound a bit tripe for an introduction to Howard Johnsons?" They both agree by their connected laughter. " I am Jimmy Sue Hastings and what are you hungry for? We have fries, burgers, onion rings, steak sandwiches, but only Coke no Pepsi." She twists her little finger in her mouth like a shy child and says, " or you could just have little ol' me after eight p.m. that's when I get off work." She is now leaning over the table showing me her goodies though unknown to her." I order a burger, fries, and a coke as I take one more glance at those freckled covered breast dangling down before me when she says, " those are not on the menu." My face turns a bit flush as she smiles and as my dad would have said, " she was smiling like a mule eating sawbriers." In about twenty minutes she returns with his dinner at a cost of 5.95 along with that same beautiful smile. She heads back to the kitchen as he watches her hips shift from side to side. She is almost there when she stops, glance back at him, knowing she had a fish on a hook. It was later that evening as he had just stepped out of the shower when he heard a knock on his motel door. He pulls the curtain back, peeks out the window and there stood Jimmy Sue patiently waiting for him to open the door. He opens the door as she rushes in with a gleam in her eye. She looks down at his towel that backs up to his green eyes and gives him a very generous kiss. It was just then he placed his arms around her as his towel fell away to the floor. She looks down and says, " something tells me that tonight is going to be one to remember." She removed her clothes in just a few seconds as they both climb into the bed for the evening. The tv comes on, the lights go out, as their bodies snuggle together for the night. In the morning the phone rings and as he cracks open his eyes, he lifts the receiver a voice comes on the phone. "Good morning sunshine, I just wanted to thank you for last night. I am on my way to work, but thanks, and by the way, you were the best." The phone goes to a dial tone as he lays there thinking, " something tells me I was supposed to sneak out on her not the other way around?" He lays back, cups his hands behind his head, and smiles on a job well done. In a few minutes, he falls back to sleep until he is awakened by a voice that says, " room service, checkout will be in twenty minutes." He jumps up from his bed rushes through the shower like the flash in ten minutes he is completely dressed as he tosses the key on the desk and heads to his car.
In a few hours, he is not far from the University of Texas with great expectation of what and who lies in his unknown future. His mind begins to drift across time as he allows his creative imagination to run wild on the open range of discovery. He sees himself standing in the lecture hall surrounded by the masses of onlookers as they hang on his every word. The women flock to him like chickens fighting over one insignificant worm. He lifts his hands into the air and says, " please, please, ladies I am but a man." A sound of a horn reminds him that the light is green which means go, as he pushes the accelerator to the floor in a moment if haste. He looks around as he pulls away thinking to himself, " they must think I am a nut job." In several hours the green signs are describing how much further it is to the University as the scenery is becoming much flatter, drier, and more cows than he can count or as they say in the south, "more cows than you can shake a stick at." I, When was thinking curiously, " why would anyone want to shake a stick at anything lone a cow." In the distance, I see the University exit and at the same time, the excitement is building with each passing moment. I take exit 95 toward the University until I find myself in an overcrowded parking lot with students just like myself. I set there trying to take it all in but everything is so surreal. I step out of my Cadillac, look around, and finally realized I have arrived in my future. Several girls walk past my car and whistle, but not at me but rather my bright red, Caddy. I smile at them while all the time still trying to maintain my cool exterior.
