Three years ago

In one of the most prestigious schools in the country, the lively atmosphere during lunch break could make a person feel dizzy. After that liberating ring bell echoed all over the empty corridors, everything turned into chaos. Hundreds of students pushed and shoved each other, with the intent to get to the cafeteria as soon as possible, while others gathered to enjoy those few minutes of freedom outside.

"Thank god! I thought that lecture would never finish."

"I fell asleep halfway... again. Mr. Brook really knows how to make the lesson boring. "

"Oh he's looking at us. Run!!! "

"Hey do you wanna grab a drink?"

"Let's work on the chemistry project together."

Students' voices got louder, their chatters got bothersome, and the incessant sound of hurried footsteps could exasperate someone immensely. It actually did.

In the middle of all this commotion, a fifteen year old girl stood in the empty classroom staring outside the window. She pulled one of her maroon hair locks behind her ear and picked the heavy math books with one hand, using the other to block her ears. Nothing could top the annoyance that came with all this noise. The irritating sounds that were impossible to evade gave her a pounding headache. Was school supposed to be this irksome?

"Reina!" a girl called her name, a stranger with good looks and probably high reputation. She had her hair done neatly, not to mention the skillfully applied make up, which adds more to the theory that this girl pays a lot of attention to outer appearance. What's her name again?

"Do you want to hang with us? We were going to karaoke after school and I was wonder...."

"No." the insensitive refusal left the girl speechless for a moment but it didn't take too long for her to come to her senses.

"What about studying in the library?"

"Not interested."

"Then let's...." she didn't have the chance to finish that sentence as her interlocutor was nowhere to be seen.

"Madison, come on." One of her friends called her, even though the term underling would be more suitable to describe such people. In this place, there existed a hierarchy of classes based on financial power. The rich stand to the top while the poor suck up to them till the end of the school year. Everyone knew about it, even the teachers.

Only that person seems to be unaware of this whole system. Why is it so hard to talk to this girl??? Everyone at school knew Reina Romano, thanks to her reputation as the heir of one of the most influential families in Italy. However, the more you get to know her the more she intrigues you to get a deeper understanding of her real personality. But it's easier said than done. That stoic expression, sharp eyes and continuous absences make it impossible to get to her. After being in the same class for four years Madison couldn't even have a normal conversation with the person in question. Her sister, on the other hand, doesn't miss a chance to gain popularity.

"Whatever." She muttered under her breath. While she was walking alongside the other girls, wearing her usual charming smile, Madison tried to pay attention to their vacuous conversations which were mostly related to boys.
